High school students ban national anthem from pep rallies. What the heck?

The Star Spangled Banner will no longer be played at rallies at California High School in San Ramon after student leaders determined the song is racially insensitive.

“It was brought to our attention that the national anthem’s third verse is outdated and racially offensive, wrote the president of the school’s Associated Study Body. “We had nothing but good intentions by removing the song so that we could be fully inclusive to our student body.”

The decision to eliminate the national anthem from student rallies has resulted in a significant amount of backlash from patriotic students and residents.

“There’s been a lot of push back on the removal of the anthem – and not just from conservatives,” senior Dennis Fiorentino said on the Todd Starnes Radio Show.

Fiorentinos, who was a guest Tuesday on my nationally syndicated radio program, said he was shocked when he realized the national anthem had been banned.

“It’s important that we honor and respect those who sacrificed their lives protecting the freedom that us Americans take for granted every day,” he said.

On a side note, kudos to the student journalists at California High School who first reported this story and did so by writing a fair and balanced report. It’s refreshing to see solid journalism from The Californian.

The student body president posted a letter on the high school’s website defending the decision to ban the song by citing a third verse that references “the hireling and slave.”

There is widespread debate among historians as to what Francis Scott Key was alluding to in the lyrics. Regardless, only the first verse is traditionally sung at sporting events or public gatherings.

“This verse translated, finds joy in the killing of African-Americans,” the student government president alleged. “To think that our nation’s anthem once had the word slave and ‘land of the free’ in the same sentence leaves me speechless.”

I have chosen not to identify the student government leader because the student is under age.

“Moving forward, we must take action and be inclusive to all,” the student body president wrote. “This song was written in 1814. That was written 204 years ago. Imagine all the traditions and laws that have changed.”

“As our culture shifts to one that is more diverse and accepting of all types of people, so must our traditions,” the student government leader wrote. “And although we understand that this anthem represents pride and patriotism in our country to many people, we believe that there are other ways that this can be accomplished without an expense to inclusivity on our campus.”

Okay – enough of this nonsense. Where are the grownups in charge of this public school?

I reached out to the San Ramon Valley School District for a comment – as did several San Francisco television stations – but so far – they are not commenting.

However, a leadership adviser (a grownup) told the student newspaper that she agreed the national anthem is “problematic” and should have been removed.

Well, that’s just great. The teacher is actually encouraging young people to disrespect American values and traditions. It’s unacceptable and inexcusable.

The Star Spangled Banner may have survived the bombs bursting in air, but it may not be able to withstand the rampaging mob of politically correct inclusivists.

Personally, I think this is a tempest in a teapot. No one EVER sings the 3rd verse, so it seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater to me.

However - I do think it should be up to the students to decide whether or not to sing any song anywhere any time. To require such smacks of fascism to me.

California High is ranked 134th within California. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® course work and exams. The AP® participation rate at California High is 52 percent. The student body makeup is 51 percent male and 49 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 50 percent. California High is 1 of 6 high schools in the San Ramon Valley Unified....

Id like to know if it was a Decision by the student body as a whole or just some??

Appears some didn't even know it had been removed..

Leave it to Cali liberalism to now attack the Star Sprangled banner!! Lets see how many others now jump on the band wagon..

Call it what you want Linda when in fact it is the "New AmeriKa" supported by the new school "progressives". Also it is not a "bandwagon" but a manure wagon hauling another load of bull manure to be spread over the landscape. We as "old school" Americans have to watch where we walk as the manure is as slippery as the shovelers spreading it over this once great land. I am compiling a list of persons of the "new Amerikans" on this site of which I shall name, providing that I am not 'deleted' What we as a nation are now entering the situation predicted by President Lincoln.

Why play the Star Spangled Banner in the first place? It is nothing but a White racist song with lyrics that has been around for more than two hundred years. It should be replaced with a Negro Spiritual. It could be replaced with something like the Mexican National Athem except use more modern language, etc. Have a national contest, like they did with the California State Flag, and choose a musical score that best reflects the diversity of American Culture. Like those Confederate Statues, it is time to relegate it to the trash heap of history. We can show the World that America can get rid of its racist past

The next thing we can get rid of are statues of George Washington, Farther of our Country, Thomas Jefferson, the author of The Declaration of Independence, and James Madison, The Farther of the Constitution. We can kick God’s butt to the curve by removing In God We Trust. We can throw the Federalist Papers on the trash heap of history because they were written by slave owning White men like James Madison, John Jay, first Chief Justice, and Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary Treasury of the United States.

The last, but not least, we can go into every military cemetery, remove every Cross, Menorah of every veteran that served this great nation-especially Marines who are too weak to do anything about it.

Isn't the more salient point here a 'minor' attending a public school is being allowed to create public policy. Does anyone see the danger in that scenario?

Maybe they will replace it with a rap song? Sounds like the nuts are running the asylum! The first verse sounds racist to me, “Jose can you see?” I don’t ever recall reading or hearing the third verse. What has become of our country?🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

==================
These kids are the products of the Obama administration of "political correctness". The decay of our society and the values of the American people have been so pervasive, due to the LEFTS' ASSAULTS on our constitution, and our sacred devotions to our country.

Our Founding Fathers invested their fortunes, sacrificed and died for our freedom, to building this beautiful country now being decimated by the LEFT. Our parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents, husbands, uncles, died and sacrificed to preserve this FREEDOM that we all enjoy.

But the leftist population emerged, brainwashed, nurtured and trained to revolt during the 8-year period of Mr. Obama. The widest racial divide emerged. Instead of uniting all of us as Americans, and to fight for our values and freedom, the left had taught these kids in schools and colleges values to fight and revolt against America. They destroy our history. Because they are so ignorant about our history.

These kids don't know history of this country. All they know is the word "Racists". All they know is to be dependent to all the taxpaying hard working Americans. All they know is the narcissist poor me, poor me. They don't know personal responsibility, but to hate those who've succeeded because they worked hard.

The leftist schools and teachers, and leftist professors, have taught these kids self-centered, narcissists, to fight, destroy, and terrorize. They think that we taxpayers are responsible for them the rests of their lives.

It has already been explained to these little idiots that the verse has nothing to do
with killing African-Americans. And I have to wonder there these snowflakes got the
authority to ban anything. Aren't these pep rallies on school grounds?
But what the hell, it's California, the land of snowflakes. I wonder what it would take
to saw off that slice of the country and let it float out to sea.
