How did someone of Donald Trump's intellect get accepted into an Ivy League school?

He didn’t really “go to an Ivy League school” in the sense most people mean that today.
He went to Fordham (not a top tier school) as a freshman and sophomore. He could not get in an Ivy League at the time.
He transferred for the last two undergrad years into the Real Estate division of U of Penn’s Wharton School of Commerce and Finance. He did not get a MBA at “the Wharton School”. He got a BA. The name of the school was changed to The Wharton School” after he left.
His brother was a friend and former classmate with the admissions officer.
His father donated money to make the real estate program.
Ivy League schools in those days admitted the sons of the rich even if they were not academically very good.
Trump went to an expensive private school. It was a military academy because he was such a troublemaker and got in so many fights. Even though his father was on the board and a major donor to the school (Kew-Forest school) that he went to until he was 13, he was kicked out for bad behavior. All his other siblings lived at home, went to local private schools, had maids and were driven to school in a limo.
By all accounts he did okay in the military school. He then went to Fordham in the Bronx (current listing 60th, but not even that high in those days). Not an Ivy league school. He lived at home. He worked for his dad. He needed to go to college to avoid the draft and to give status to his father. But he could not get into an Ivy League school.
Ivy League admissions were very different then. It was easy for even poor students if they had elite and wealthy backgrounds and were not Jewish (quotas were just ending) or a minority. But he could not get in.
After two years Trump transferred to U Penn in the undergraduate business school, the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce. He did not get an “MBA at the Wharton School”, which is what most people mean when it is said “he went to the Wharton School”. He just was a undergrad transfer into the business department. It was significantly easier to transfer in than go as a freshman. The Real Estate division that he got into was the newest and smallest division with one professor and six students. Most of the students were from families in the real estate business. He spent his time working in teams to analyze real estate and neighborhoods and learning about mortgages. These were things he already knew from being brought to meetings and to job sites with his dad.
Other factors were the fact that his father gave a lot of money to the school to create a real estate program which Donald entered. Also, his brother had contacts with an admissions officer there. “He was admitted to Wharton on a special favor from a “friendly” admissions officer. The officer had been a classmate of and known Trump’s older brother, Freddy.” Trump flaunts Wharton degree, but his college years remain a mystery
Trump never got any honors or participated much in his two years at U Penn. He part time worked for his dad and went back and forth to NY. But the big thing you need to understand is that Ivy Leagues were quite different in the 1960s. They were finishing schools for the rich. They accepted the sons of the rich and famous as well as some who did well on tests, had good grades and those whose fathers had gone there. A “gentleman’s C” was still a common thing. That meant a C for failing students at an Ivy League who came from rich families. Also, U Penn was a commuter school through the 1950s. It only gradually became more of what we think of as a very selective school over the last 50 years. When the Ivy League was being organized, the athletic directors of the other seven schools protested, fearing Penn's football prowess and arguing that its students' relatively weaker academic credentials would give it an unfair advantage in recruiting athletes.
The upshot is that Trump won no academic honors, participated little and could not get in a Ivy League school as a freshman even though his father was one of the richest men in the US at the time. This was unusual at the time. Most rich men could get their sons into an elite school in those days.
The things that Donald excelled at were:
being born into a wealthy real estate family.
Having an older brother who became an alcoholic and died young. Being given a job at his dad’s company.
Being given “control” (his father was still CEO) of that company when he was 22.
Then gaining full control as his father got dementia and then died. This is the company he runs today.
There is absolutely no evidence that he was a great student or talented academically or intellectually in any way. Some may think he is a marketing genius but he never has been intellectually superior in any way.

Donald Trump's father gave him a $1 million loan to start his own real estate business, and Donald Trump today is worth over $3.5 Billion (Forbe's quote of wealth as of 2017)... Donald Trump was reported as a billionaire in 1989, 10 years before his father died, and his father's $20 million estate was divided equally between him and his three siblings, not given to him solely... And he was "intellectually superior" enough to do that while dealing with New York City Financial Folk... Also, he gained a BS Degree from Wharton, not a BA...

In a Fox News op-ed Tuesday, media icon Sean Hannity expanded on his Monday night monologue, warning the Senate Judiciary Committee’s ‘second memo exposing Deep State corruption,’ should ‘scare,’ the American people.

Hannity wrote:

Grassley and Graham tell us that, while working on a second dossier for Clinton opposition research firm Fusion GPS, Steele was being fed information directly from the Obama State Department and from Clinton allies as well as his usual, sketchy Russian sources. That’s right, teams Clinton and Obama were working with a foreign spy to undermine then-candidate Donald Trump. […]

The Grassley-Graham memo goes on to say “it’s troubling enough that the Clinton campaign funded Mr. Steele’s work, but [worse] that these Clinton associates were contemporaneously feeding Mr. Steele’s allegations. It raises huge additional concerns about his credibility.” […]

You should be scared. And disgusted.

In a letter released Monday, Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) outed the FBI for attempting to suppress the release of new revelations about the Steele dossier.

In the same letter, Grassley and Graham say that Steele, penned a separate memo on then-candidate Donald Trump, based on information given to him by a Hillary Clinton contact and unnamed Obama State Department official.

According to Fox News’ Ed Henry, the memo suggests Steele misrepresented his findings to the FBI.

“The Grassley memo tonight now goes on to say that in fact the FBI then went back after learning that Christopher Steele misrepresented things and did talk to the media–the FBI never disclosed that to the FISA court and kept going back for renewals of the surveillance warrant and didn’t say to the court look things have changed, we no longer think he’s reliable–he lied to us and spoke to the media,” reported Henry....
