A republic is a form of democracy.

People like J Anthony, PaulPisces, PeterS, Kevyn, moldyoldy& Nikolai are perfect examples of what is wrong with democracy. They are so uninformed and misinformed that it is truly frightening. I strongly doubt that one of them could pass the test for citizenship.

And that's one other thing. I think a very strong case could be made that passing that citizenship test be a requirement to vote.

But that's democracy, and as messy as it may be, the one with the most votes should win. The founding fathers couldn't have possibly conceived of what the country would be like 200 years hence...

j boy: I've got bad news for you! We are a Democratic Republic. The popular vote has and never will elect our President! Republicans, unlike democrats are not that stupid! The Electoral College meets on the third week in Dec of every general election cycle, and elects the President by electoral votes only!

While some say exactly what you say we are a republic, not a democracy... your Progressive left would like us to believe our country is a democracy but that is only because they have spent so much time reciting it that way they figure eventually it will be adopted as such..
Sorry, but not going to happen..

A republic is~ A form of government in which power is explicitly vested in the people, who in turn exercise their power through elected representatives. Today, the terms republic and democracy are virtually interchangeable, but historically the two differ...and the proper is Republuc..

When speaking of the power source of government specifically, “The United States of America is a Republic,” where elected officials vote for laws, not a Direct Democracy, where citizens vote for laws directly..

Given the up rise of the BLM, ANTIFA, and Soros’ people you are absolutely correct!!
Negative and a complete embarrassment for our country they are!!

Oh lest we forget the mob ruled women’s protest.. Although after watching them they seriously could not find their way to the end of the street without a road map!!!!

And to you LJ. You always have something funny to say. I got a particular kick out of the women's march attendees not even being able to read a roadmap. Most likely try along with most under 40. I was just talking with a friend yesterday about technology. Younger people are often more technology adept, but they have no alternative means of operation. It's a little scary actually. But still fun to talk about Hope your Sunday is excellent and you have your strength back from your recent bout with pneumonia.

There was The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics but and The republic of Iraq under Saddam Hussein I don't think either would qualify as democratic so one doesn;t mean the other.

There was the old joke of a Soviet citizen & an American arguing about whose sytem was better. The American said to the Soviet, "Why do you realize that I can stand outside The White House and shout out, "The American president is a jackass without fear of reprisal?" The soviet citizen replies, "That's nothing. I too can stand outside the Kremlin and shout out, "The American president is a jackass without fear of reprisal."

It's amazing how few people seem to be aware and informed about that significant difference.

Ok, so that means what? That your votes don't count but you're led to believe they do? Please, enlighten me
