Maybe instead of a plethora of "new gun laws", we might enforce the many we have on the books right now. Like informing the agency of illegal acts that disqualify gun ownership, which the Air Force neglected to do. We don't need more "common sense " gun laws, we merely need to enforce the ones we already have and that are being ignored.
Right on, Rick.

Or, we could look to Spain, United Kingdom, Canada or Australia for guidance. All have stricter gun laws and all have fewer mass shootings. I wonder if these countries have an NRA as all powerful as we have here in USA.

Actually you could move to Spain, United Kingdom, , Canada, or Australia. Problem solved. I know you’ll never get this but our 2nd Ammendmant is what makes us uniquely American.

Both Canada and England, in 1900, had few restrictions about purchasing or owning firearms. Both Countries had a per capita murder rate lower than it is now. Australia passed their own gun ban in response to a mass shooting. Their murder rate is right back up to where it was before. They also have home invasions now. Armed robbery is skyrocketing.
They have also had two more mass shootings since their "ban." You are also looking at a country whose population is less than that of California, that didn't have many guns to confiscate in the first place.

None of those countries have an inalienable right to bear arms framed in their constitutions.

Chicago has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the US, yet a person is shot every 2 minutes 20 seconds and murdered every 12 minutes 24 seconds. Hey, Jackass! Crime in Chicago

FYI: No member of the NRA has ever committed a mass shooting.

As we have seen crazed young men, bent on murder will find a way. How about the truck in New York? Like a typical progressive you blame an inanimate object. Yearning for the good ole days does not accomplish anything for victims of death by AR-15 or death by 38 Special. What's your point? Can't make talking points out of the far more prevalent murder rate in the inner city can you? If you outlaw semi-automatics do you honestly believe criminals won't get them? If not, will they get on the inter-net and learn how to build a bomb? Molotov cocktails are simple to make. Punishing law abiding citizens by turning them into criminals with a stroke of a pen would be the progressive way but not solve anything.

For all the reasons you mention, gun control is a necessary safeguard.

Good common sense gun control is hitting the target each time you squeeze the trigger.

Because it is in the Declaration of Independence , authored by Tom Jefferson in 1776.

It's official. Deranged gun owners cannot give up on their need to kill themselves and/or others or to defend themselves against fellow gun owners who are determined to kill them. The killing will continue. Shut up and wait your turn.

Clinton and the crime/gun regulation in the 90s worked pretty well.

A clear definition of the type of gun being banned.

The Bush removal of these regulations in the early 21st century, helped set the stage for the killings we have today..

Yup!

Why I believe we have more mass shootings than previously. When I grew up in the 60's and 70's we had much more access to guns than today. Hell guys had em in the back windows of their pickup truck that they parked in the school parking lot. We had more access to guns yet less of these mass shootings. Inner cities weren't a shooting gallery. There was no security at schools or churches. What happened? It's the culture. We have become more desensitized to violence. It's everywhere. 24/7 on T.V.. Video games that make killing fun. Social Media bullying. Take a kid and drive him practically insane on the internet until he believes he has no choice. The use of anti-psychotic and anti-depressant drugs. Starting at an ever younger and younger age. Instant celebrity. Knowing you are an immediate media sensation if you pull off a horrendous act. We have a larger minority of blacks than most countries. A race that for whatever reason has a much higher percentage of it's young men involved in violent crime. (Why I don't know. I imagine that's a whole different topic). One reason for sure; PROGRESSIVE POLICIES. These policies have replaced the father of many households with tax payer funded benefits. Might supply some sustenance but not much direction. The progressive war on poverty has given us ever more government housing slums where hope is quenched. Progressives have given us a failing school system where teacher's unions an important Democrat voting block is more important than a child's education. Progressive politics have given people the attitude that nothing is their fault. Everyone should have equal results no matter the effort put in individually. When life slaps them upside the head they become unhinged. Worst of all progressive policies are giving us an ever more secular society. In my childhood we did those awful things in school like say the Pledge. Even prayer. Progressive policies want to remove all vestiges of God, morality, and patriotism. So progressives, now that your policies have created the problem you want those of us who don't see things your way to give up our legally owned guns. Ain't gonna happen.

So whose policies do you think we ran under during the 60's? In fact you putzes didn't start inserting influence until the 80's. If you want to blame someone J you need to blame yourselves...

And I had guns in the 60's too J. A double barrel shot gun, single shot .22, a 30-30 lever action, and a bolt action 30-06. Nary a semi-automatic in the bunch...

Not even close. A CCL meant that someone in that church could have had a gun and saved many, many lives. The Air Force let him go with a dishonorable discharge for violence with his family. They failed to make proper notifications or this nutjob could not have had a gun. So if you must place blame, blame the Air Force.

I agree. Mental health services in this country are HORRIBLE, only the rich can afford them. How many become homeless due to mental disorders that could be treated. How many mental disorders get out of control when they could be controlled?! It is one of America's greatest shames.

This is just a wild idea, but if laws work, let's pass a law to make murder, by any means, illegal. Problem solved. (Yes, sarcastic me)
