Did you miss what was stated earlier... that you can turn off javascript to view the site without signing up?

I don't want to turn off anything. There are enough strange occurrences going on that I will not alter my setup for anyone. I got hit with that encryption virus that encrypts every .doc and .jpeg file on the computer and then demands ransom via bitcoin and TOR to get the decryption key. I had to dump the whole memory and reinstall everything.

Any site that wants my viewing doesn't put obstacles in my way and if they do, screw them and those who post links to them.

They want you to sign up so they can send you email notices about new and interesting content. It's not at all intrusive. Besides, what makes you think anyone who wants your email doesn't already have it?

Bomb, nothing is for free, they're fishing .

I appreciate the helpful hint. I've got no doubt it works just fine for you.

I'd just rather not.

Good move.

You should (want to turn javascript off). I understand completely about you not caring to view that particular website, and that's fine.

But javascript is most likely what enabled you to get the virus you described. It allows things to happen automatically without any input or approval from you. For some websites it is required, but for most it isn't. That is why I use Firefox as a browser, because I have an add-on for it that puts a little button on the toolbar, right next to the search window. It's a toggle, where clicking on it enables/disables javascript. I always have it disabled unless I need it. For instance, javascript is required for YouTube to play videos.

OPP does not require javascript. With javascript disabled, there are no ads on OPP.

How many sites do you use where you start to read something, and then the text moves up or down because something else loaded? Or it automatically refreshes while your trying to read it? Disabling javascript eliminates all that. It also makes accidentally downloading a virus, if not impossible, significantly less likely.

If they already have it, why would they ask for it? Do you think they're checking you for Alzheimer's?

Are you aware that Javascript is one of the favorite way hackers can access your computer?

I was referring to the fact that a lot of money is made by selling Email lists. Your email is already out there. Where do you think Junk mail comes from?
