I know the type of training and repetitions that this took. Remember that some breeds are better at these demonstrations than others, but the herding dogs seem to be the most responsive to this type of work.
I enjoyed the video, thanks for posting it.

Yes, it is great training but not as difficult as training an search and rescue dog or even more difficult training a cadaver dog. Both have to go into areas where there is a disaster, and possibly a fire still raging not that far away. They have to risk their lives to do their jobs just like the humans working with them. The dancing dogs work for treats, learn a complicated routine and perform on stage, but they do not have to risk anything but being late for dinner.

Thanks for that video. My wife and I really enjoyed seeing those dogs performing, since we are dog lovers.

You're quite welcome. Glad you enjoyed. I was just astounded that each dog was carrying out its own choreography independent of the other. It was a dog ballet.

Makes me feel a little sad to know that I did not see the possibilities with the last of my Borzois. I had taken her out for a walk and released her at the entrance to the apartment complex. She immediately ran back to our door. I waited and called until she returned, walked a little closer and, again, she ran back to the door. This went on about 5 times, each time getting closer to home. The next evening, I decided to continue the training and released her at the entrance to the complex. She ran to our door, ran back almost all the way, ran again to the door, ran back to a point a little closer, and again and again. Finally, after going through all the shorter runs, she sat by the door looking at me and, as if she were saying it but I got the idea, "There, I've done the entire routine, can we go in now?" It's obvious that she would have been quite trainable for any routine.

You're right but the dancing dogs are more entertaining and they do have to learn a longer routine rather than just their ultimate goal. I also enjoyed the training of the police dogs. They also have multiple choices depending on the situation.

Basically I prefer cats who know enough to convince their persons that they are untrainable. I've accomplished some things with my cats but, like the Borzoi, caused them to create their own "tricks." Presently I am going through a session with two male cats who are jealous of each other -- not to be alpha males for the sake of mating, but for my attention. Of course, I must play some part in it but, basically, they are solving their own problem. It's like having two kids who want all of momma's attention. It's interesting to see how the two personalities work out this problem. One wishes to dominate and the other is smart enough to let out a little cry for me to come and handle the situation. It's like having a little boy who says, "Mom, look at what he's doing again."
