How would you prevent these shootings? A real solution, not your usual smartass comments.
Any solution must be based on reality, and doability. What works in the here and now, not some ideological solution that accomplishes nothing. We see how well "gun free zones" work. You may as well put up a sign that says "Welcome mass murderers." At least 20 of the last 23 mass shootings have occurred in "gun free zones." They work about as well as signs proclaiming "no concealed handguns." Why not "armed robber friendly?" It would be more accurate. You are not going to ban anything. Prattling about the UK and Australia, and Canada, and places that have a fraction of our population, and an even smaller fraction of firearms. Canada has fewer people than California, and in spite of strict gun control, has about the same number of murders, providing (go ahead and call me a racist) that you only use whites as your demographic. According to US DOJ stats, about 70% of violent crimes in CA are committed by Hispanics and Blacks. If you take the crimes committed by whites, it is about the same as Canada, which is overwhelmingly white. The 600 odd murders in Canada in 2012 are about one third of the 1900 or so in CA. Whites in CA committed about 600 murders. Granted, you are talking about half as many whites committing the same number of crimes. This is ALL murders. I do not have the stats right now on firearms. It is a fact (source: RCMP) that about half the Canadian murders are committed with guns. Statistically, Canadians commit more murders per capita with shotguns and rifles than Americans.
Most mass murderers are white, but then, so is 73% of the population. While the numbers are about the same, bear in mind that black and Hispanics comprise less than25% of the population, and commit over half the murders. I suppose the white shooters are more into wholesale.
I have a number of friends and acquaintances who are active duty law enforcement. These are largely town police, with a couple of deputies and a state trooper thrown in. All of them oppose gun control. Every one. Perhaps I should say they support enforcement of existing laws, rather than passing more that won't be enforced.
I do not see how anything other than armed guards at schools will help with school shootings, and they are not an ideal solution. It is, however, a bandaid, until something better comes along.
Bojester had better hope that a gun nut felon doesn't enter his residence and attempt to commit murder and he doesn't have gun to protect himself or his family.
Glad you are concerend about my safety, in the meantime, be careful not to shoot yourself, in the foot, winkie or any place else

Bojester-yep. The progressive liberals again venting their frustrations by shooting people. Bo-once again-people kill people. If a person is intent on killing he/she will find a way and there is no way you can stop them short of armed guards everywhere. These shooters have to be mentally ill and the people best able to determine whether a child has a problem are the parents. Unfortunately, some parents cannot accept the stigma of their child being mentally deficient so the hide it and once the child reaches the breaking point he/she acts. Until parents begin to accept responsibility, and take preventive measures such as ensuring that their children are not building pipe bombs in their garage, these things will continue to happen. Good Luck America !!!

Any solution must be based on reality, and doabili... (
show quote)
Banjo, I do not totally disagree with you about armed guards at the schools, but think it would have more unwanted results than the good ending we would want... The best tactic for now I think is controlled access. I know that this has been ineffective in places, but if done well and planned well it should be effective. A fine example was given some publicity several weeks ago..Think it got a short bit of publicity on the Today show but can not recall the city it was in...

Another set of your idiotic comments.
No one in their right mind would think ANYONE, including people you label Gun Nuts, would be pleased at these events.
And wishing that any other family would be subjected to a similar fate is absolutely SICK!
I do not think there is a psychiatrists couch big enough for you.

Please tell everyone here that you are not as stupid as you appear to be with the insane comments you make.
Here is a tip: You are not smart, clever or aware of what is going on.
Your comprehension is severely lacking, and your smugness is laughable.
You should try to reply to the people who think like you, as few as they may be
Now back to your game of russian roulette, we all may get lucky this time

Armed guards in schools, bullet proof glass in all windows and doors, controlled access at all entrances, safe rooms at various locations throughout the schools, security fences around school properties with roving guard patrols, security cameras covering all possible avenues of approach by evil doers. Just a few possibilities, now, who wants to help pay for all of this. Something must be done to protect the children!
That sounds a lot like the security provided for a prison.
Is that what children need to be subjected to?
Or is reasonable gun control a smarter option?
