Our country’s veterans have given up so much for us. They give up their homes, their families, their comfort, and their safety to fight for us and protect us so we can enjoy our freedom and feel safe at night.

While veterans do get some benefits, those small discounts and perks are nothing compared to what they have given.

Some people, though, have a hard time understanding just what these veterans have done for them.

Such was the case when one young veteran stepped up to the counter of a fast food restaurant to order a meal. After ordering he asked if they offered a military discount. He definitely wasn’t expecting the response he received.

A woman standing behind him in line told him he was being rude to ask for the discount. She said he was acting entitled to ask for “special privileges” because he was in the military.

Though I’m sure the young soldier was stunned at first, he quickly shut her up with what he did next. It’s not a privilege, it’s a discount,” he told her. “A privilege is getting to go home. To go home to your family every night. To go home in a free country.”

“Some people give up their privileges so that people like you can have them,” he added.

After he finished telling the woman off, a girl in line stepped up to pay for the man’s meal, and the store manager actually ended up giving him his meal for free.

Hopefully that woman learned her lesson that day. Veterans deserve our respect!

Many of us have friends or family who never made it home. I don't care what you think of people in the military. They have put their lives on hold and at risk for you. They stand at the gate, defending your freedoms.

You don't have to like them, but you damn well better respect them.

Nailed it! Some people are just plain ignorant. They have no idea the sacrifices our military and military families go through to afford us to live in freedom. Some people really need to be kicked in the ass!

I was gonna say it might be better to kick them in the head, but then I realized where they keep it.

Ever since the draft was stopped, a lot of people have no concept of military life. I can remember trying to convince a family that yes I did pay taxes while serving in the army except for my tours in Viet Nam. I guess in some cases you just can't fix stupid!!

She must have been a "snowflake" Lots of them around of late, must have something to do with the recent election. It would be interesting to hear from one or some of them on this site regarding this issue as we need some laughs so early in the day.

The woman was stupid for a couple of reasons. Forget about what the Veteran was going to say or do. She was lucky none of the people around her did not go much further than he did with her.

Yeah, "privileges" indeed. Many years ago, I registered with the employment office and was assigned to the Veteran's staff, a staff of 1. This man had 250 Veterans to help, the other staff had maybe 50 a piece. When I asked to be reassigned to a "civilian" worker, I was told it was a special privilege for Veterans to have their very own worker.

I applied a to our local VA hospital for a job. Being a Veteran with all my points, it'd be a piece of cake getting on right? Nope, it turns out, Veterans have a "special" system for hiring - which is more complicated and exhausting than it is for civilians. Many years later I applied again, only I didn't tell them I was a Vet. I was hired within 2 weeks, but when I went to HR to do paperwork they found me out. "What difference does that make?", I asked, "the Director of Nursing was impressed with my credentials and experience, so..." - then I was told that the position was CLOSED to Veterans. I have never received an explanation for that BS.

Sometimes, the "privileges" Veterans receive, is a smoke screen to hide discrimination against Vets.

Actually, you have to be a LAZY, NO-GOOD, HATEFUL, person to get a job at the VA. THAT is what we encountered SO MANY TIMES when My Husband was alive and having to go there.
BUT, they found OUT I could be JUST AS HATEFUL RIGHT BACK!! Ever since one HATEFUL NURSE told me that it was my OWN FAULT that my Husband's twin died of cancer, because he GOT NO CARE, there. She had the NERVE to tell me that I should have DEMANDED CARE for him!! Which I finally did, or the ASSWIPES would never have even CHECKED to find out he was DYING of CANCER!!!
I won't even go into the NIGHTMARES they put my Husband through, before he died!!!
