It's difficult to imagine that china would be shakin' in their boots, over an attack on a weak adversary like Syria, if the objective is to scare them. But I get the point you're making. Also, the munitions, we waste on Syria, would better be used when a real enemy shows up on the doorstep, perhaps, like North Korea? But then, America doesn't usually pick on those with a real potential to fight back.
