I was stationed in both Germany and France in the late 50's. In regards to music, I listened to American pop coming from Radio Luxembourg which was a 'pirate' illegal "off shore radio station. We also had AFN in which was also popular with the troops, however those who could preferred Radio Lux, as it was more creative.

In the 60s, I bought everything Errol Gardner recorded. I though Concert By the Sea was his masterpiece. And, it is a sad commentary on what has become of Black Music and Jazz for that matter. Rap is crap. Bring back music like Gardner played.
