Today in 1781, the Spanish military began a 2 month siege which ended in the surrender of Pensacola FL by the British. Yes, the Spanish were at war with the Brits during the last part of the American Revolution; but this is not well-known because they never signed an alliance with the American colonies. Instead, they signed one with France.
Although Yorktown is generally considered to be the last major battle of the American Revolution, technically, the last one was fought in India. You see, between the Battle of Yorktown and the signing of the Treaty of Paris, there were about 44 more battles fought between the British and the French and Spanish, so technically, a state of war still existed between the Colonies and the British.
For what it's worth, today in 1959 was the day that Barbie first made her appearance on store shelves.
Wow... 2 great historical anniversaries.
LOL
