boatbob, As a retired teacher from a wealthy state, I was lucky. My salary and benefits were around the middle range. I retired to South Carolina and I am absolutely amazed with how terrible the public school system is. The I-95 corridor is called the corridor of shame because the rural school system of SC is so underfunded and hence underperforming. I may be wrong, but I heard that fewer than fifty percent of the students graduate high school. The suburban schools are a bit better, but really need a big shot of cash. I think that there has to be a better way of funding school systems than by using the county taxes. Some school systems I taught in were as good as anything in Asia or Europe. In other words the quality of the public school system , for the most part depends on the wealth of the local community. How is that fair and adequate funding for children's education?

The money for the schools isn't manages well in CA. We have to many illegals in the schools who harassment to teachers, no help from principal. Muslim boys have no respect for women teachers. The class rooms are a mess. Teachers can't reach unless they have control of class room. Parents demanding the teacher change their kids grade so kid can stay in sports. School getting sued and paying instead of fighting it against gang members that are in classes. Teachers quitting or moving to another state.

America, gimme break. This is America home of the free. People can say or believe anything they want. If you take away a person's basic constitutional rights, you've set up a system to have yours taken away. Lighten up, and learn toleration.
