Loki, What you say is true, but when the USSR broke up, the Ukraine gave up it's nukes for a promise from Russia to respect it's borders. Putin doesn't respect international pacts. I don't understand why the Donald trusts Putin. Trusting this thug always carries a huge price!

Keep your friends close....keep your enemies closer! You don't KNOW that Trump trusts Putin.

You post anti-American trash all the time. Why are you different? Regarding the Crimea, you have no idea of history. The Crimea was a part of Russia for hundreds of years until the late 1950's when Kruschev, (himself a Ukrainian) just sort of gifted it to Ukraine. The population of Crimea is about 70% ethnic Russian who wanted to be part of Russia, as they have been for centuries. To a lesser degree, the same can be said for Donetsk. The rest of the country in Ukrainian, but has constantly threatened war with Russia. At least in the matter of the Crimea, the Russians have a pretty good case, once more...... reclaiming Crimea, which overwhelmingly supported the action, since the population is overwhelmingly Russian, and until Kruschev's inexplicable action about 50 years ago, was a PART of Russia. At any rate, this is none of our business. We need to pay attention to our own borders, not those of Russia.

I agree we do need to pay attention to our borders but we need to be vigilant in keeping our eye on Russia, their relationship to us and Trump is questionable. I also agree we should stay out of it but if we move into this area we need to go with strategic caution, and not open arms.

Maybe Trump knows that Putin keeps his word and the US doesn't.

In 1990 the US promised Russia that NATO would not expand into eastern Europe if Russia agreed to German reunification. The US and NATO has broke this promise. The US obviously does not respect international pacts. Who made the first aggressive move in the Ukraine? The US did when it instigated and financed the coupe that overthrew Ukraine's pro-Russian democratically elected president and installed its own pro-western puppet.

Hopefully Trump will limit future NATO presence and make members pay their own way.

Maybe he will dump NATO too..Ineffective and without results it's a waste..Once viable, Nations now do speak to each other, have their own liaisons and have achieved more "decorum" in trying to address issues independent of war...

Don't trust Putin at all but also think it wise we try to work together with other nations ...

Someone asked why Trump trusts Putin so much ?? One, how do we know he does?? Two, is it wise to keep our enemy close??

Given what BO did to our allies over the years do we really know who is and isnt anymore??? Time to build/rebuild alliances and strengthen ties with all nations... Trump, I believe is testing the waters with those he will be dealing with later... A good move!

Sound advice! That said, I always read Kira's post because in a sea of minnows she appears to be a shark. She is articulating and advocating for a more educated approach to the Mid East situation. By more educated I mean exposed to information which has not been sanitized and filtered to protect the domestic criminals running our government.

At some point it has to become obvious that we Americans are involved in too many of the wars, skirmishes and conflicts all over the globe. South America, the Mid East and the China Sea. It is long past being difficult to believe we were justified in all of these conflicts. In the Syrian situation we are in the position of arming, training and supporting a group (ISIS) we are fighting. How is this in any way supporting Democracy particularly when we don't have a Democracy as our own form of government?

It is time to examine our own house and get out of the war fomenting false flag business. Our CIA needs to be brought to heel, their agenda is unknown and with unlimited access to unaccountable funds they are a menace to world peace.

We say the same thing!!

We aren't the peace keeper of the world and it's time to stay out of everyone elses' issues and take care of our home front...Who are we to decide what is best for other countries anyway...We go in and make it worse than better more often than not....

If the Middle East wants to kill each other off for whatever reason, oil, land, strategic military bases or trade ways to water ways let them!! As you say, it is not our obligation to defend against the false flags orrrr put up our own!!

We have enough to handle right here...That said, any nation that attacks us, different ball game... Take them out instantly not years in duration...!!!

We can and should respect every ones borders and learn to monitor as IS OUR need not theirs!

As for Kira I enjoy her posts, her knowledge and that crazy side of her too!

In reality we cannot afford another war. I'm glad that in a pragmatic sense I believe Trump understands that.He had mentioned for us to be paid for from our allies if we assist them, well that might sound better financially but I don't see him acknowledging the American lives that would be lost for another country? Is that what they signed up for, or pledged their allegiance to. Will we than become paid mercenaries for other countries?

Future wars are going to be cyber and financial...The easiest way to take them down as we're seeing now...

Paid mercenaries?? Yet we pay how many billions to go in and rebuild countries that have asked for our help and that's ok?? I say rebuild your own countries, maybe another way to deter wars??

If it's good for America to be paid do you think other nations would jump on that band wagon wanting the same courtesy and could that then become a deterrent to " wars" if everyone had to then pay for help??
We pay way too much now not only financially but in the needless loss of life...

Let em fight their own battles that way we're not footing the bill and they won't find it so easy to start wars.???

Did our men sign up or pledge their alliance to any of the garbage going on in the Middle East?? No, they signed up to defend our country without question...The problem is we never knowv" why" we are really going to war or into these "conflicts"...

The propaganda staggering anymore..What do we believe??? It sure isn't media.....

Kira is a nutty conservative who swoons in the presence of authoritarianism for which Putin is no better example. Don't worry about her. She has a right to her opinion and if you don't like it the best way to show your disapproval is just not respond. Hell, knowing Kira she will block you anyway so ignoring her won't be difficult at all...

What countries asked for our help that we didn't already invade? It's far cheaper to rebuild a country than to have to invade it for a second time...

Merry Christmas linda. Hope you have a wonderful day...

Dr., Why Russia? Russia is doing everything it can to turn back the clock to the bad old days of the Soviet empire. It has broken treaties with the former Soviet Republics, threatened many of the Baltic states and has hacked Western nations elections including the US and Italy.
Putin is a criminal. He has stolen billions of dollars in Russian currency from the Russian people, jailed and or murdered journalists, thrown political adversaries in jail and taken their property, and has tried to hurt American interests around the world! I don't understand how Trump and his supporters can trust this gangster. I have read that America has done some pretty unsavory things in the past, so why criticize Putin? That may be true, but what has that to do with Putin?

Sorry, but do you have dementia? Obviously I read her thread. I will speak slowly and loudly now. (Sorry, just a joke. I look very old and get that response from most millennial clerks.) Her motivation is the "why"? Russia is still very clearly our enemy and has proven itself to be with Assad and the Ukraine an enemy of freedom. In two posts she applauds Russia, as if the country is a defender of liberty instead of its proven enemy. Why post favorably for Russia? Nothing in either of her threads praising Russia had anything praiseworthy. Why side with our enemy is the question?

Pennylynn-well said !! Blaming the Russian people for the acts of their government is like blaming our citizens for the actions taken by Obama or any other president. It is both short sighted and ill advised. Many here may be too young to remember that the Russians helped us defeat the Nazis. Their soldiers take orders from the top down just like ours do. A Russian not swearing allegiance to his country is the same as our citizen not swearing allegiance to America. Casting aspersions does not help anyone and it sometimes exposes ignorance on the part of the be-rater. Good Luck America !!!

Politics is complex. Making opinions about other cultures without studying the history is naive.
