Bernie Sanders Gets It, Liberal Media Doesn't

This is what I've been trying to help liberals understand. The liberal media wronged a majority of Americans when they called all Trump supporters racist. They essentially said "We're going to stereotype you because, it's easier to do that than addressing the issues that concern you". Since the election, the liberal media has only gotten worse, acting like a 'jilted lover', and they still ignore their own bias. All they do is make up excuses for why Hillary lost. They continue to pretend as though all Americans are juveniles and idiots.

Sanders Issues Shock Statement Horrifying Media… Trump Voters Not Racist or Sexist

Following the largely unexpected victory of President-elect Donald Trump, some members of the Democrat Party and liberal media have staunchly refused to look at what they did wrong and instead reiterated their assertion that Trump was elected by millions of racist, sexist and bigoted supporters.

There have been a few individuals on the left, though, who have taken the time for a moment of introspection regarding why their side lost and made honest assessments of how to ensure it doesn’t happen again, one such individual being the self-proclaimed socialist Bernie Sanders.

According to Breitbart(a supposedly racist news source), the senator from Vermont recently sat down for an interview with Charlie Rose of PBS, where he made clear that in his estimation it was the media and political establishment who got things wrong in failing to understand the connection Trump made with American voters all across the country, which had nothing to do with racism, sexism or bigotry.

Admitting that he himself “wasn’t shocked” but still surprised by Trump’s victory, Sanders declared, “(W)hat the media doesn’t understand, what the establishment doesn’t understand, is there are tens of millions of people who are not racists, who are not sexist; they’re hurting.”

Sanders proceeded to describe how tough things are for average Americans these days, stating that Trump won because he spoke to voters with passion about the specific issues of most concern to them, something Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton and other Democrats did not do well, if at all.

Asked later in the interview about the role FBI Director James Comey and his investigation of Clinton’s private email server scandal played in her loss, Sanders agreed that Comey’s reopening of the investigation at the last minute was “inappropriate” and could have made a difference in the close margins in several states, but he didn’t feel as though it was the main factor in her loss as some Democrats and the media have asserted.

But Sanders asserted that there was a “deeper question” than just FBI interference as to why Clinton lost to somebody like Trump.

“And that speaks to where the Democratic Party is today, how it sees it itself. What is the Democratic Party?” Sanders asked rhetorically.

“You know what concerns me very much, we have a lot of Democrats who spend much of their life, you know what they do much of their life? They’re out raising money from wealthy people,” he continued. “Out raising — now, in this day and age, as a result of Citizens United, money is very important. I know it, but you can’t just spend your entire life raising money from the wealthy people.”

“What Trump was doing, to his credit, he was going out holding rallies. He was going all over this country. He was going in rural areas, where candidates previously did not go. In many ways, I did that myself,” he added.

What Bernie Sanders said about Donald Trump’s supporters was absolutely right. They aren’t hateful, racist, sexist bigots, but are mostly just regular Americans who have been hurting due to government policies and felt like they had been ignored or looked down upon by the political establishment for too long.

Though we disagree with Sanders on a whole host of ideological issues, we certainly commend him for forthrightly speaking in opposition to the narrative being put forth by his friends and allies in the liberal media and Democrat Party.

Democrats would do well to listen to Sanders and take his advice inasmuch as they should turn their attention to the “tens of millions of Americans” who have had it up to here with the deliberate obtuseness of the party and the government toward their wants and needs.

Please share this on Facebook and Twitter so everyone can hear Bernie Sanders actually defend those tens of millions of Americans who voted for Trump from the relentless attacks on them by Democrats and the media.

Obviously Mr. Trump connected with the American voter. Sanders similarly connected with voters, the politics was very different but the connection to the people the same. Addressing issues that are important to people, that is the key, even though their responses to the issues was very different. Calling the supporters deplorables, racist, bigoted or whatever is not going to bridge the gap between politicians and constituents it builds a wall. We do not need a wall between Americans, there are plenty of divisions between us already. We need unity, working together towards our common interests. The wall Trump will build sets us apart as Americans not from Americans.

Essentially, Sanders and Trump were giving the same message to the same people so why didn't the rural and Southern voters vote for Sanders as much as they did for Trump?

I believe they favored Trump because the Republican party is reliably racist, homophobic, and misogynist. I was in the army with these people. I know them as brothers, inside and out. Don't tell me. I will tell you.

I don't believe in Socialism, history is full of failed Socialist nations. The USSR was the biggest, most powerful, successful socialist country in world history, who would want to sentence their children aqnd grandchildren to that? Bernie Sanders, and Donald Trump, atrated such big followings because they spoke to the people where they are. They adressed the issues that politicians don't get and don't seem to care about.

Racism is real and active - and appears on the left, right, democrat, republican, black, white, and every other spectrum. It is not relegated to a single party, religion or ideology, although some make racism their singular focus - either AS racists, or against racism. It is a mistake to call republican racists, as there are racist democrats, just as it is a mistake to call all conservatives " right wing crazies ", or all liberals "left wing nutcases". There some of these in there, to be sure, but these people do not represent the majority of those subscribing to those ideologies. The problem is, crazy people make the most noise, and get the most attention. Whether Trump is one of those or not, remains to be seen - like everybody else.

Dictionary my ass. Three and a half years eating and sleeping with my brother mountaineers and crackers.

It's all in the family. Even the Minnesota and Iowas farmers were born and raised with it.

The army was segregated for a good reason. Otherwise it would have been murder, which did happen in race riots in England and Germany as well as Los Angeles.

Don't tell me. I lived it.

First of all, what Army were you in and when? I was in the Army too from March 2003 to March 2011. The Army is the least racist group I've ever met, liberals and conservatives included. I believe it was the need to trust in your battle buddy that made racial inclusivity such an innate thing. As far as homophobia and misogyny, I believe you're wrong on that as well. There were real issues with homosexuals serving in the Army and women serving in combat roles, issues that don't apply to the civilian world. In the civilian world, you aren't required to use an open shower with a homosexual. In the military, you are. Having to take a shower with a homosexual can be uncomfortable, even when you aren't homophobic. Women have separate showers from men. If women have the right not to be ogled at while taking a shower, why are heterosexuals not afforded the same right? Second, males have a primal instinct to protect the female of the species. That isn't misogyny. It's the basic instincts that nature gave to man dating back to the hunter/gatherer days. Army officials were worried that this male instinct would cause a male soldier to mis-prioritize in an emergency situation and, so far, their assumptions have panned out exactly as they feared. There have been numerous incidents in the Army of males doing exactly that on the battlefield.

Also, there's a few problems with what you're saying. Homosexuality wasn't well known in the Army during the 1940s. Not only that but, the term homosexual back then had a different meaning. Homosexuals of that day were what we today call homosocials, and homosexuals today were called homophiles back then. It was the cultural norm to consider homophilia on the same level as pedophilia so, one could argue that there was no such thing as homophobia back then unless you also wish to argue that there's such a thing as pedophobia.
