Some things just make sense - and some things just don't

There is a growing resentment among Americans that are seeking some form of Government assistance, who see newly arrived foreigners get immediately, what they've been wait years for. I can certainly understand such feelings. This resentment is added on top of the growing resentment all Americans feel towards anyone receiving such assistance. With the economy and our political scene in turmoil, turning unease into outright terror, seeing some get freely what the rest of us work our asses off for, is bound to elicit an angry response - and justifiably so.

We have a Christian duty to help others in need, we have an American duty to help those that need it - but we do NOT have any obligation to support anyone for the rest of their lives. We see foreigners receive services and benefits we deny to our own citizens, and that is just wrong in every sense of the word. Am I saying that we should treat foreigners less tenderly than we treat our own citizens? No, I am saying that we should treat our own citizens at least as well as we treat foreigners - and that, we are not doing. That makes no sense at all. We owe every citizen the opportunity for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, we owe the rest of the world nothing. When we care for our own, that is not charity, it is duty. Caring for foreigners is charity.

That being said, we are doing a major disservice to our own citizens above and beyond how we treat foreigners. Here's the deal; we do not have a duty to proved assistance to any American for life, excepting those that through disease or injury cannot care for themselves. The average American gets up everyday, reports for work working 8,10,12 hours a day every day and has a portion of their pay drawn off - to help someone else - who does nothing all day. That makes no sense. Why should you get to play video games all day because you're out of work, being supported by those that DO have jobs? I believe that EVERYONE should have a job, excepting those I previously mentioned. The unemployed persons job is to find work, the uneducated persons job is to get an education and the person on welfare's job is to get off welfare. Those are their jobs - and that job should start at 8 am, last all day every day, Monday through Friday.

Anyone not working for their own survival, for whatever reason, should still have a job to go to every day as I previously mentioned. It could be vocational training, school ( GED, college ), or community service. We do not owe anyone anything for free, they MUST work for their supper, just like everyone else - and we owe it to them to see that they do. Some welfare recipients are 3rd and 4th generation and don't know the meaning ( or value ) of hard work. How can we expect anyone to get ( and keep ) a job, if they have no experience at punching a clock? I know many people, who do not know that the rest of the world begins it's day between 5am and 7am - not noon, and who's day ends before midnight.

All assistance programs must have it's mission stated as being a temporary measure, the goal being teaching/training the recipient to be self sufficient. During the assistance period, the recipient should act as thought they have a job, getting up every day and reporting by 8 am for training, schooling or community service. There is no reason for them NOT to, especially as those supporting them must do the same. This just makes sense on many levels, teaching time discipline, avoiding boredom, increasing self respect and repaying in some measure what others are slaving to provide them. No one gets a free ride - it's that simple.

We are treating our citizens in cruelly , when we do not require them to behave as though their time is valuable to us. We must learn to view such assistance as an investment in our future - and ensure that those receiving such assistance view it the same way. The best way to do both, is to require them to get their ass up everyday and report for duty at a specific time. Those with children who fail to comply, should be arrested for child abuse - then they can laze around all day in jail. We have a duty to care for our own - and they have a duty to act like they care. We have a duty to help people become self sufficient - and they have a duty to do everything in their power to see it done - including getting up every day and reporting for work, somewhere, doing some thing.

You are not sane, or a thinking person. Has the ACA had any effect on a member of your family?
It has mine! I'm trying to be nice here Tom, but you actually, are clueless. People are going banckrupt, and dying because of the ACA, and other democrat policies. Look at the VA.
This isn't right wing bullshit. It is life for the average, hard working American CITIZEN.

I could easily wish on you that the ACA hurts your family as bad as it has mine, like you wished gun violence on mine. But I cant. No one should have to go through that! It is inhumane at best! A bullet to the head is humane.

Based on the history of the right wing posters on OPP, you will not get answers to anything you asked. You will, however, get a boat load of deflecting because they don't have answers.

I can see that you're emotionally distraught, as evidenced by your horrible sentence construction. Take a breath - and read the article again. I said nothing about requiring welfare recipients to get paying jobs immediately, I said they must ACT like they have paying jobs and get up everyday and report for whatever has been designed for them, as a measure to HELP them get paying jobs and off welfare. Do you really oppose teaching our "less than fortunate" citizens self respect, self discipline, the skills and education they need to be self sufficient, productive and happy members of our society? Somehow, I think not, so I can only conclude that you intentionally/unintentionally misunderstood what I wrote.

BTW, I did not get anything from a "BS article", which explains the lack of a link to such. I did what I encourage everyone to do, which is research an issue using all available sources. Those sources may include forums, blogs, social media outlets, news articles, professional publications and more importantly - people who deal with the issue on a daily basis. I am non partisan and unaffiliated with any political ideology at all, so any accusations of such are flat out wrong.

The only reason I offer this "self defense", is as a teaching moment, to teach you to think first and react later.

most people agree, the problem is the politicians both right and left who have sold out to special interests and could care less for the majority.
