It's dead Jim

My hard drive is dead. Long live my hard drive. I have a ASUS Republic of Gamers laptop. Been having several issues recently. I had two games that I could no longer play, due to a problem with directX that I could not resolve. I had some other problems too. A lot of junk on my hard drive. My browser frequently froze up on me, plus some other annoying issues.

The good news is that my laptop has a protected partition that allows me to reset it to factory condition. It's working great now, but I have a LOT of stuff to download again. Fortunately I have access to a Google WIFI connection that's super fast. I might be finished sometime tomorrow. Still a pain in the keister though.

Doing my Windows updates right now, then I have to redownload my games...BIG SIGH!

First thing I did, after updates, was install the Maxthon browser. One of the most secure browsers out there. It comes with adblock plus preinstalled. No more annoying pop ups. And check this out. While I was installing my updates. I had two programs pop up on my desktop without my having downloading them. WTF was up with that? I remember seeing the pop up that asked me to install them, and I said no to both. They installed them anyway. How rude!

I was having problems with my hard drive. I went to best buy and purchased a trilobite exterior drive and it ended my problems. Everything goes to the drive, and it's much faster. Also, if my computer goes down, I have all my information saved on the drive.

You know how to solve your problems. I have no idea what you said but it sounded ok to me.

I just take mine to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and let them fix it. It always comes back in good shape. I get that Aw Snap quite often, or at least I did.

Yeah, well. This doesn't cost me anything but time. And a little frustration.

If your hard drive is dead, how did you access the "protected partition"?

I have a macbook pro, so I called apple help. They ask for the computer serial number, then instructed me on how to input all my data and use the external hard-drive as the primary. Works great and have had no problems with it, but I still need to get another internal drive.

It was a figure of speech. I killed all the programs I had on it, then reinstalled windows. So, technically, I killed it.
