In the early '50's my dad let me drive the car from the cotton field to our house.....a few miles of dirt roads. I was 12 years old, and the car was a WWII jeep, stick shift. My sis and I rode our bicycles on the little used highway......we had sense enough to get off the highway when we saw a car coming, and we actually had enough sense to WATCH for cars. My mother also let us play down in the creek bottom.......she knew we knew to watch for snakes and avoid them at all cost. Government and PC purveyors have ruined so much of Americana, and I resent it. Meddling into people's lives WILL NOT MAKE THEM LIVE FOREVER AND WILL NOT ALLOW THEM TO ENJOY LIFE WHILE THEY HAVE IT.

Life as it should be or was, that is~~

We had a favorite "rock pit" all of us would be at on the weekends..We'd hang a rope and swing out over the water having a ball..The cops would see us, wait until we left or when they decided it was enough or too many kids, and come take it down..Throwing it to the ground...The next day we'd go back and do it all over again..We had some cool cops that watched out for us more than hassled us....

I remember those days well. As kids we were allowed to play anywhere in the neighborhood until dark because we had no street lights in the area I lived. Sometimes we were allowed to be out after dark if our parents knew where we would be. We would have to go home when we were called in for the night. There were never any break ins in our neighborhood and everyone knew one another. Everyone had respect for one another, if a kid did something wrong the parents would get together and figure out what the problem was and never said, " my kid could not do that". Parents were more responsible for there children at that time. Good days!!

Parents were in fact PARENTS in those days. Some parents of today are real parents, but I'll wager more are NOT than ARE. Look at black kids - over half of them have no father figure to learn from or to have to obey. Kids without real parents, people who are truly interested in the child and his welfare, in my view are quite likely to grow up being savages with no remorse........a bad declaration in this "free" nation. Political correctness and immorality are destroying our nation......and I blame GOVERNMENT.

Back then, you didn't have your doors locked, because no body tried to steal from you. You knew your neighbors and everyone watched out for each other.

So true. Even as late as the early 70's we never had our doors locked when we were home. Now our front door is always locked.

Being in the middle is not having any principles worth defending. Being in the middle is a cop out. Being in the middle is never having to make a difficult decision. Being in the middle is the equivalent of having no values. Being in the middle is shameful ignorance and lack of principles.

no, being in the middle is considering both views and taking the one that makes the most sense.
