Could we soon have 52 states? The succession movements in Colorado and Maryland are at full speed. Citizens in Alleghany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett and Washington counties don’t feel that their interests are being represented in Annapolis any longer. Now they are looking to split off from the rest of the state to form Western Maryland. This effort is being called: A New State initiative.

Scott Strzelczyk, leader of the Western Maryland initiative puts it bluntly, “people are fed up with the liberal majority and want an “amicable divorce.”

The five counties make up about 11% of the entire state and lean heavily Republican.

Meanwhile, a similar effort is underway in rural Colorado where citizens in 8 counties are weighing the idea to break away to form Northern Colorado in reaction to gun control and a push for expanded renewable energy measures from the state legislature in Denver.

“The people of rural Colorado are mad, and they have the right to be,” said U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner, who represents Yuma county in northern Colorado. “The Governor and his Democrat colleagues in the statehouse have assaulted our way of life, and I don’t blame these people one bit for feeling attacked and underrepresented by the leaders of our state.”

The U.S. Constitution allows for regions to split apart to form new states with the approval of the state legislature and Congress, but odds are it won’t happen anytime soon. The last time a region split away to form a new state was in the case of West Virginia; about 150 years ago.

I have wondered if a new state forms from splitting from another state, do they automatically become a part of the U S of A or do they have to join the U S of A?

One thing for sure - They can pack the Senate quicker lacking a large population, but getting representation!

The word is

SECESSION

Use a dictionary if you can't spell.
Use the internet, if you are too stupid know what you are saying.
On second thought, quit using the internet because you are too stupid.

Personally I think this is great. We as Americans have broken from tyranny before. It is time we reassert our liberty. It is time the radicals are forced to live by their own rules and not force them on everyone else. I SAY GO FOR IT. It is past time to stick to the man.

Ont thing for sure, this came about because the majority party's Gerrymandering the voting districts to their benefit.
I don't see anything in my readings that indicates the Secession movement there is attempting to get out on the United states, only from Maryland and Colorado.

For a response, one must look to the Constitution. “New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.”
Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1. What has to happen; first the parent state must agree, then the "new" state prepares their constitution, after which it is submitted to Congress for approval. If approved, then a new state is born. Must they call themselves by "East" or "West" of the original state. No, they can adopt any name that the citizens of the newly form state collectively agree.

Thank you Ginnyt. I was just looking into the Constitution for that exact thing. Anyway, we can form new states by secession. That's howWest Virvinia and North Carolina came into existence.
