No, they were making a mockery of the very notion of sacrifice for sin, not the temple. Jesus was to be a sacrifice for sin and thus his anger. Of all people who know about this, Jesus would have known that God is not bound and possesses no house, including a temple. Another bit of clarification Jesus made is that the "temple" is us, our bodies and spirits. Even today Christians confuse a church building with the Church. The Church is the people and its head, Jesus/God.

And Jesus was, in fact, acting in anger; violent anger. One man doesn't toss a truck load of people out if not in one heck of an angry state. They probably thought he was crazy or possessed.

I can leave it at that. I am not a part of "church" anymore nor do I believe the bible is a divine book or is an accurate record of the "supernatural" occurrences so many proclaim to believe actually happened.
