Some of them know they are going to Hell and are 'delighted' to go as long as there aren't any poor people and those who love Christ present!

By the time children step foot in school again this fall, it will have been two years since Pope Francis cautioned that the Church had become “obsessed” with abortion, gay marriage and contraception.

“It is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time.”

Indeed, it is not. Jesus never mentioned any of them. Not once.

He did, however, talk about the poor, and about the evils of the rich, and how the rich will not enter the kingdom of God (Matthew 19:23). He told his followers to turn the other cheek, to love and to forgive.

Pope Francis went on to say that, “The dogmatic and moral teachings of the church are not all equivalent. The church’s pastoral ministry cannot be obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently.

Two years later, here we are with the Republican Party and Religious Right focused as much on abortion, gay marriage, and contraception, as ever before. We are forced to continually re-fight the same battles as children starve, as people go homeless, and as corporations brutalize not only workers, but the environment.

Ted Cruz’s campaign site (www.tedcruz.org) features a “Life, Marriage, and Family” page, proclaiming,

Without life, there is no liberty. And ensuring every child is born into a home with a loving family provides the best chance for that child to achieve anything. That is why Ted Cruz has been on the front lines defending life and standing up for marriage when it has come under assault from activist judges.
There is nothing about ensuring those children are fed. In fact, nowhere on his campaign site will you find anything about Jesus’ condemnation of the rich and exaltation of the poor. Just a bunch of stuff Jesus didn’t find particularly important!
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, another presidential hopeful, just signed 20-week abortion band into law, which bans abortions after 20 weeks except for when the mother’s life is in danger. There are no exceptions for “severe fetal anomalies or for victims of rape and incest.”

Jesus never talked about these things. Not once. Jesus never called for strange men to probe women’s vaginas. Scott Walker and his Republican legislature could have come up with a law protecting the poor from the rich. Jesus talked about that. The Pope talks about that.

But Wisconsin Republicans would rather focus on their pet bigotries than on following Jesus.

Lindsey Graham of South Carolina says on “Secure our Values” page of his 2016 campaign site (www.lindseygraham.com) that he wants to “ensure that America remains a shining city on a hill.” This means, apparently, that “America was built upon the fundamental notions that life and liberty are sacred and inalienable rights.” Shameful! http://christian-wisdom.com/money/0/quote-category.html

Those who would introduce religion into the discussion only when they think it supports their political ideology are phonies - regardless if their religious beliefs support or oppose welfare, abortion, gay marriage.

The Old Testament prophets go into great detail on how the poor are to be treated. The poor were described as without land, widows and orphans. Jesus continued this tradition with his tirades of how the rich treated the poor. As I understand it, he even said that it would be easier to pass a camel through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Pretty plain meaning!

Do Jesus have to explain everything to you? How about an example of the 'very poor' being rich! (No semantic BS please).

Where, oh where, to begin to explain life to the left which has no idea what life is for, why we have life, why religion exists.

I am not a Christian, not a member of any organized religion, do not read the Bible - never have. I DO believe in my Creator. I fully support true Christianity which is in short supply. Most who go to church are NOT Christians in my view, but I am no expert. I DO maintain, however, that Christianity is what has held this nation together for all of its existence, and I believe that trying to kill Christianity is the dumbest, most idiotic, most insane and thoughtless thing a human can do. That human, and it could be the Pope (whose true Christianity I question) who does and says some of the most stupid crap I have ever heard, could be the cause of our downfall.

If our nation continues its slide into the abyss of the unknown but definitely dark hole of decadence, our nation will be GONE. I doubt it could ever recover, and would soon become just another 3rd world country, and every citizen will be affected. The young don't have a clue how horrible it can be. Many of us old timers DO HAVE A CLUE, and we want no part of it. What the left cannot seem to grasp is that every action elicits a REACTION. The reaction may be what you expect, but it can also be the exact OPPOSITE of what you expect. That is why conservatives ARE conservative - we are smart enough to want to KNOW what we are being led into, and what we see gives us no reassurances that ANYONE ON THE LEFT KNOWS ANY MORE THAN WE DO ABOUT THE MESS WE ARE GETTING OURSELVES INTO BY FOLLOWING THE CRETINS IN DC. Actually the conservatives know a hell of a lot more about what we are being pushed into than any leftist on OPP does. I was a republican for over 50 years......no longer. I'm libertarian trending toward peaceful anarchy. Lindsey Graham wouldn't know a virtue if he stepped in it.

Your source is a pitiable one. Those on the left need to grow up NOW.

I'd wish you good luck in your overthrow of a decent nation, but it would be a lie. I hope the left fails just like I KNOW it will. I know that. I also know it may take it a few months to fail, but it cannot succeed long term because it is repeating a long tried and ALWAYS failed attempt to have complete control over the masses. The left can try, but it can never succeed for any length of time.......must be a tough pill to swallow.

   And sometimes the very rich as very, very poor.

Heard a radio interview with actress Jayne Mansfield half a century ago and the interviewer asked her how it felt to be rich. She seemed puzzled, "But I have ALWAYS been rich", she answered. The interviewer stammered, "But I thought you came from a family with very limited means". Jayne said, "Oh, you are right about that, but my thinking is that as long as I have a dime more than I need, then I am as wealthy as anyone." I'll never forget her comment. Too, too bad all of us can't be as wise as Jayne Mansfield, whom I had previously thought was an airhead.
