no, I don't think that there is a serious challenge to gun ownership in this country. Nobody has ever come for my revolver. I do however believe that there needs to be a serious effort to keep guns out of the hands of felons and disturbed people. It's not a guarantee that no person will ever start shooting up a public school. but it certainly would help.

As long as "Due Process" is involved, I would agree. The problem there is a lot of gun grabbing going on right now that is unconstitutional. Everyone has a right to face their accusers in court before any rights are taken.

I don't know of any effort to ban guns altogether, but the argument that they're needed for self-defense against the government is insane. It implies that a gun supercedes democracy and the rule of law. Those are precisely the people who probably shouldn't have guns.

There were numerous efforts to ban handguns, then so-called "assault rifles." I have yet to see anything that makes a serious dent in a determined individual's effort to obtain a firearm. The comments of the Framers, along with the [i]Heller[i] decision, leaves little doubt that the Second Amendment was addressing the individual rather than the collective right. The phrase [i]well-regulated[i] had a different connotation than it does today. It had little to do with implying government, ESPECIALLY Federal Government control. Any argument that firearms are needed for defense against the government is not insane. Rather than implying that a gun supercedes democracy and the rule of law, it implies that firearms in private ownership are part of a bulwark against encroachments on the rule of law.

As my grandmother used to say. Whole lotta intelligent people out there that don't have enough common sense to come in out of the rain. I was always a c+ B student myself. Everything I've learned that mattered was learned from life experience. Have a decent income, good life, no debt, and fish in the Gulf whenever I want. Damn if I only had a PHD I could speak eloquently about my fishing experiences.

Fck them! Enjoy your fishing J! Its been about a decade since I was in the Gulf. I remember one particular day where we watched the sun come up at Daytona and watched it set at Anna Marie Island that evening.

So, theotts, is there any other subject upon which you'd like to spew your total and complete ignorance?

All patriots- the millions of patriots- in the USA should do as Australians recently did and give up their guns to the all-knowing, perfectly honest and deeply-loving, government just because you--YOU -- spew a judgment that "..it is insane..".

Are there any more fools like you at home??

Wasn't a big fan of Florida East Coast. To many trans-planted East Coast liberals. Gulf side is much nicer in my opinion. Never been to Anna Maria Island. Sounds nice. Did spring break at Daytona in the seventies. Don't remember that at all. My fishing yesterday was successful if you like sea trout which I do.
