This was meant for slatten, but hey, since I'm HERE instead of THERE, I shall just share "here". I'm sure, which posting doesn't portray, that you were being your delightful witty self, prone to hints of sarcasm, when you said "vaunted" because I looked up the word and it appears that it refers to "highly or widely praised," self-boasting in some cases. Feel free to interrupt my interrupting. :XD:

When I used the phrase "vaunted C and K rations of old", I wasn't being exactly complimentary, or giving accolades. They were 'nourishing', to a point, and gave sustenance when needed. However, I seriously doubt I would go out of my way to seek them for my 'daily bread'. Having never been exposed to MRE's, I can't comment on them. Were they, perhaps, a 'step up' in the food chain? I shall leave that to others who may have indulged in that 'culinary delight' to give their first hand accounts, and voice their opinions.

Yes Boot, vaunted.

Well, you did say "of old". Maybe Korea provided better offerings. I wouldn't have thought so. Some of the ones we were provided were from Korea, and WWII. Not many, but a few.

The 'C' and 'K' rations I remember were edible, only. The ham & limas were known affectionately, by another title. This is a 'Family' forum, .

The ones I remember most fondly were the peaches and pound cake.

I can go along with that assessment. I have tried MRE's, given to me by my nephew, upon his return. They are a vast improvement upon my memories of 'C' and 'K' rations.

I did not consider them "culinary delights", just better! :-D

I would be remiss to not say what I am sure your observant self already has taken note of that "certain comrades" in arms seem to have an innate ability to run off with a conversation and claim it as theirs !! Be prepared with "quick wit" to retake it or....just enjoy the ride!! I, myself, like to make a little popcorn, sit back and see where "the posse" adventures off to!! :XD:

Darn those "certain comrades"! That doesn't make them communists, does it?

Thank you for confirming my suspicions. Never having "tried' any/either of these, ah, sustenance giving "delights", I had my suspicions, but due to the fact that I never found myself in a position to be "invited to a tasting" I did not feel really qualified to expound on anything but "vaunted". Again, thank you for explaining the "finer" points.

Hey, no harm, no harm, donchaknow!! It is always "wise" to check, because we ALL know what "assuming" accomplishes -- well, guess I shouldn't speak for anyone else here -- but I certainly have earned my letter "A".
;) Right this moment, I shall be happy to have running water again since it has been 5 days now, and not the kind that is at this time pouring out of the skies, with dire tornado watches parading across the bottom of the tv screen. Hey, I'm not worried yet -- the severe weather alerts haven't started flashing across my computer screen yet!!

I guess Salty and I are the only ones enjoying a beautiful day, weather-wise!

With regard to the former...I have seen the misfortune of others mistaking the meaning of posts, often.

Unfortunately, not everyone is endowed with the good fortune to live in the Paradise known as Taxifornia. We do have lovely weather, most of the time, but must contend with the usurpers controlling the Government herein. So, I suppose, it could be a wash as far as 'living' in Paradise goes.

Well, we all have our crosses to bear. We have multiple personality weather, so there is something for everyone. Hey, at least we're never bored. Monday morning, it was 65. Tuesday morning, it was "0". This morning we had thunderstorms. Of course, we are landlocked for all intent and practical purposes. Sigh. Wednesday, they are calling for "light" snow. You have your crosses. We have ours. :XD:
