House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said on Thursday that he regrets informing President Trump of surveillance affecting the president's transition team before he updated his panel.
"It's a judgement call on my part," he told reporters when asked why he spoke with Trump and the media before House Intelligence Committee Democrats.
"At the end of the day, sometimes you make the right decision, sometimes you don't," Nunes added, noting he could not show the panel information that was given to him by a source.
Nunes declined to disclose his source's identity when asked if it was the White House.
Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, told CNN Thursday that Nunes had apologized "in a generic way" for his actions.
Nunes said Wednesday that the U.S. intelligence community incidentally collected information on members of Trump's transition team, ultimately putting it into various intelligence reports.
"Details about the U.S. persons involved in the incoming administration with little or no apparent foreign intelligence value were widely disseminated in intelligence community reports," he told reporters.
"I want to be clear - none of this surveillance was related to Russia or the investigation of Russian activities or of the Trump team," he added, noting he believes the information was collected legally.
Nunes' remarks on Wednesday added a new wrinkle to Trump's claims earlier this month that former President Barack Obama "tapped his wires" at Trump Tower in New York City last year.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the House Intelligence Committee's ranking Democrat, voiced frustration on Wednesday over Nunes' handling of the information.
"If accurate, this information should have been shared with members of the committee, but it has not been," he said.
"The chairman also shared this information with the White House before providing it to the committee, another profound irregularity, given that the matter is currently under investigation. I have expressed my grave concerns with the chairman that a credible investigation cannot be conducted this way."

Trump can have all the ties with Russia he wants. He wasn't ever in government until he became president. Think about that. Take all the time you want.

Problem is, the CIA does the money laundering around here, buddy! Don't forget it. They rig elections. They secretly depose leaders, provide arms to those who, on the record, we don't support. They spy on German Chancellors and us, as in us, the citizens of the USA.

Go all the way back to the Shah of Iran. Who put him in power? The CIA, that's who. They are like the employer who has certain words and phrases flagged on his employee's emails. That's how they find you!

But, they have now been hacked, probably by Anonymous, not Russia. All the hacking that wasn't actually a leak, has come from within the USA, literally. They have this need to expose hypocrisy. And boy have they hit the jackpot. And not even the CIA can stop them.

I'd bet the CIA has even send out feelers offering cash to try to flush them out or at the very least, buy their way out of this mess.

Russia. LOLOL!!! Putin just sits back and laughs at the USA and their "holy", exceptionalism, government and peoples.

Right! LOL! However, Trump was very open about it, saying that he hoped that if Russia had Clinton's emails that he hoped they would release them. That doesn't sound like someone who is "working with" or "colluding" with Russia now does it?? Add to that, there is zero evidence for it and nothing has been found to corroborate the accusation as well. Even the events of the past few days illustrate that all too well. LOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find the whole thing both funny Ha Ha and funny scary, although I have known for years and years that the level of 'espionage" perpetrated upon the US citizenry is grossly underestimated, to be sure.

If you actually think Trump colluded with the Russians, you are truly going to enjoy the next few weeks, NOT!
