In Colorado Springs, we could go out in shirt sleeves is temp. in the teens as long as it was clear and the Sun well up. When the sun dropped below the horizon, you'd damned well have a few layers of clothing or risk frost bite or hypothermia....

Here at sea level, BY the north Atlantic, the ocean keeps things cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, but right now the water is at winter low temp and the wind blows that cold ocean air onto the land, keeping it COLD until air temps stay above 50° at night.
In other words, it's COLD here.

Yeah, but we had a pretty warm winter. At least the bay didn't freeze this year.

When I was a little kid, it got so cold Gardiner's Bay froze and a guy drove his car out to the Island with supplies, and back one year. Pond skating was common and some winters skating lasted from early December to late March. I do not miss that cold one little bit, Also the summers were HOT, 100 F. was more usual in August for a day or three as it is absent now. Don't miss that either.

The EPA is a vital organization to the planet. It protects the environment from the harmful actions of people. Without the EPA, our air and water would be filthy , and would result in many species of animals and plants going extinct. I remember the words of my biology prof. in college. When we started the unit on ecology, he told us that he didn't care if we could remember all the anatomy and other topics, but we better understand ecology. This was in the late sixties, and time has proven him right!

I guess all attempts to wrest unearned $$$ from those adopted by the radical left will meet with this same sort of criticism.

I hear ya. We only had skim ice in the south shore creeks this year. Was it two years ago?, the bay froze across, right to Fire Island. The police used air boats to chase people off the ice. That's something I can do without.

I agree that we need the EPA. What we don't need is politicians using it to line their pockets.

Great South Bay is shallow and freezes quickly, and thaws out quickly too, so falling thru ice an issue. And it is not as strong as fresh water ice. It tales a long time for salt ice to squeeze out the salt and get strong. Then it is safe, but not for at last 40 years has anything like that happened. Here, ice sailboats rotted in their owner's garages. I doubt there are two left in my whole town these days.

I saw 6 ice boats out on that ice, plus a catamaran and a sunfish sailboat with skates attached. Quite a sight. But the best one was the guy on a sled, sitting on a bucket, using a leaf blower to propel himself along. Now that was unique. That was at the Bluepoint dock.

Too bad you did not get that on film, might have gone viral on YouTube and you could be making serious bucks on it!

The went overboard. They lost balance, they became punitive and they were weaponized.
