The manner in which Obama trashed the military, eviscerated it, condemned its veterans, snubbed the troops, and lowered morale to historical levels, it's no wonder young Americans are having second thoughts about joining. Maybe now, with a real soldier in charge of our defense, the situation will change. Moreover, not if but when we get hit again with another mass casualty attack, we'll see a lot of young Americans stepping up to the plate. After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, kids as young as twelve were trying to join the military, and some of them actually got in. The youngest Marine on Iwo Jima was fourteen.

I didn't serve, but did register for the draft as soon as I turned 18. Would gladly serve now if I was younger.

I joined the Marine Corps Reserve when I was still in high school and served 7 years.
That was during the Vietnam war.
Fortunately there was a draft in those days so the reserves weren't used as canon fodder as they are today.
