Hemp, the New Green Thing.
There is a common misconception that industrial hemp and marijuana are the same critter. They are not. Industrial hemp has only a fraction of the THC contained in the recreational (cannabis sativa Indica) variety. As a matter of fact, it is nearly impossible to ingest enough industrial hemp fast enough to obtain a "buzz." Industrial hemp typically contains less than one tenth the THC that even very weak marijuana boasts.
Hemp has been used for thousands of years for cordage and animal silage. It is a very nutritious food, consisting of a complete protein, (all 21 essential aminos), and high amounts of heart healthy linoleic, omega 3 and 6 acids. It is an effective, renewable alternative to fiberglass insulation, and is being used as such already in Europe. Hemp clothing is more durable and cheaper to grow and produce than cotton. There is already a growing hemp based economy in Europe, based on these uses: Cordage, clothing, insulation and food. Industrial hemp is also an excellent biofuel, and is used for soil and water purification.
If our Liberal friends in Congress and the White House were TRULY interested in "green jobs," this would have been one of the first avenues they explored, rather than expensive and unworkable solar and wind experiments that fell flat on their faces at great [taxpayer] expense.

Sorry these aren't clickable. Google hemp industrial and commercial uses.
Pot makes me feel lazy and dumb, but that is just me. I heard a prosecutor saying on the radio that it is the loss of revenue from the courts, judicial, probation and police force to the state in taxation monies. It is just a money swap from the local to the state level. The state will get the $ instead of the local districts. You used to see narcotic burnings all the time on TV, at least you did when I was young. But you don't burn money. The cops just siphoned it back onto the streets. They can't do that now because the state took the money that went to them in the form of legalization in Colorado.
So my thought process is this, does maryjane, "NOT HAVE", any tar or nicotine in it, and if we're going thru this massive super fund running for the last fifty years to get kids and people to "NOT" smoke cigarettes, and now with the lets all be the picture of health like the first lady of DC, cranking up the maryjane machine is oakie doakie????

One more time, you cannot smoke enough, or ingest enough of the industrial hemp in a short enough time to get high. If you could, Columbus would have never discovered America because the sailors would have smoked the rigging. Go to the hardware store, buy some hemp rope, roll it up and smoke it. See how high you get. While you're at it, try banana peels, oregano, and tea leaves. Same difference. Industrial hemp is NOT THE SAME plant, did you not read the post? Cannabis Sativa Indica is the stuff with the tetrahydocannibinoids in it. If it doesn't contain a certain amount of this substance, you can smoke a truckload of it without getting high. How the hell do you think sailors sailed ships for several thousand years? By using grapevines? Maybe they smoked them too.

Which part of my post went over everyone's head? You can't smoke enough of the industrial stuff to get high. You can smoke a truckload and you won't catch a buzz. unless you can smoke that much in four or five minutes. It is NOT THE SAME PLANT!!!

I got your post, Banjo. But, then, I don't smoke anything, at all.

I think you need to read his post a little closer. He said MJ, not that stuff you were talking about. It was also dripping with sarcasm, but that doesn't come across as well in print.

This is no worse than growing corn. Better, because it has more uses than corn.

Banjo, you are so right on this. An industrial hemp movement is gaining ground in Canada as well as several area of the US..So many uses for this plant it is criminal not to put it to use...Even much better than corn as a base for bio-fuel...
They should legalize pot nationwide and put a tax on it same as alcohol and cigarettes. Everybody would profit and the recession the gov't says doesn't exist would be over in six months!

Hemp growth I read would stop or change the THC in regular marijuana plants and make it taste bitter. There are hundreds of uses for Hemp the British took it world wide in there colonies. The USA imports it from Canada and CHINA for production use here. In the seventies I saw a Government plot near El Centro, California grown as soil improvement. Timber products are made from it. Ford made alcohol to burn in cars from hemp. It was planted again in WW2 to make rope. Grow it here and make jobs and save the forest.

Once more, we are NOT talking about pot.

It is cheaper to grow than cotton, and produces more durable clothing. It will grow almost anywhere. It is a renewable, cost effective alternative to fiberglass insulation. The oil is loaded with linoleic acid, also Omega 3 and 6, one spoonful RDA for adults. If these hypocritical liars in DC ACTUALLY cared about green jobs, they would have been pushing this from the start: Proven, cost effective crops, instead of countless billions of taxpayer dollars wasted on solar companies who went bankrupt, and who never had any chance of succeeding but WERE heavy contributors to the Obama campaign. Here in GA, industrial hemp could turn this economy around, just in insulation and textiles.
I'm for the growing of hemp that adds to agriculture market and many other products as well. Since there are (2) different hemp plants that needs not be a big problem for the Agriculture government agency to figure out how to acquire the right one. Right?

It would seem so, but never can tell how difficult things can be for those in government..
