"So here's my offer to you: I obviously can't and won't give you money to vote tomorrow, but if you do vote your conscience and you are punished for it, I will personally step up pay your fine [sic] which is my legal right to do." How's that for a bribe that isn't a bribe? He won't pay up front but will be happy to take care of the aftermath. Makes me wonder, if the punishment for being a 'faithless elector' was prison time, would he be willing to "step up pay your fine" then? I wonder how many electors will take him up on his 'offer'.
It is interesting to note that, historically, the majority of faithless electors have been Democrats:
