Why Do People Hate the Police So Much?

This is my short list of pet peeves:

People hate the police for their zealous traffic enforcement. If nobody, not even the charged driver, is put in peril by whatever traffic rule is being enforced, the police should not issue a ticket. Hence, driving at a speed that some misguided official has determined is too fast for all circumstances, should not be enforced in a situation where no harm could be caused, for instance, on a bright sunny day on an open road, no pedestrians present...you know what I mean. That kind of traffic enforcement is just to raise more revenue for the local government which already has too much.

People hate the police for zealous gun enforcement, where no shots have been fired and the gun is not being used to threaten people, or in a crime.

People hate the police for arresting/frisking people who are not violating any laws and for failing to arrest people who are obviously violating the law at a protest situation, which disrupts other people's lives: rioting, blocking traffic, dumping garbage, setting fires, littering, breaking windows, random vandalism, intimidation, noise making, etc.

That is my short list. It is more than just "pet peeves", because the situations involved threaten my lifestyle immediately and personally.

I would be interested in hearing from anybody with contrary, or additional thoughts.

I know a lot of cops. Almost all are sane, professional individuals. But, there are a few in most areas who are over zealous, power hungry nutts.

I agree with some of what you are saying, too. Why should I wait thru a red light when there are no vehicles within a half mile or more of the intersection?? That's one of my pet peeves. A machine with no eyes telling me it's unsafe to pass or turn. Der. But if there is a camera, you gonna get it!

I once have a swing arm bus stopped directly in front of my house at the time. It had the swing arm out but was just sitting there, with no one on it. I got out, looked in the bus, waited a minute or two, got back in my truck and pulled into my drive. O few weeks later, I got a ticket for passing a school bus with the swing arm out. I appealed the ticket, told my story, showed them on the video where I pulled into my drive way and looked back at a still empty bus. They did not relent and told me I had to pay over $200. I said no and left the court house. So far it hasn't shown up on my credit report nor did a recent traffic stop turn it up on my active driving record.

But seriously, they'd have taken my money had I complied with the fine.

I have many great stories of cars running red lights right in from of police cars at some very busy intersections down in the ghetto where I work on occasion. In not a single case has the officer done a single thing. More than once this happened at an intersection not equipped with cameras.

They also block lanes needlessly around fender benders where the vehicles could very easily be driven off the road.

But hey, cops are human!

Not contrary, sboy, but just a reminder that these radical secular liberal progressive "thugs," basically hate everything about America and our original Judeo-Christian free-market Western civilization. It's been the secular progressive Marxist ideology and agenda since infesting the world MSM, entertainment and American politics, circa 1897, when the "jackasses" got into the same bed. "Liberalism," in America is now in its final death-throws, rioting, killing, looting, burning and vandalizing everything in sight, on the streets in a few cities; and haven't yet realized THEY are the reason this current administration just got kicked-the-hell out of the WH on their ass. Those of the radical {paid} capitalist anarchist rioters {who can read English}, should thumb through their blueprint for "overthrowing the enemy, America," one more time; and pay specific attention to the parts where red-diaper" Saul Alinsky {"Rules for Radicals"} stressed the fatal results of "exposure to the enemy, if the radical communist movement isn't strong-enough to physically overthrow America," and Saul's "rapid crushing" analogy. Hummmmmmmmmmmmm. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP!!! "CRUSH AWAY!!!"

People hate the police because they ae corrupt. There used to be a time, back up until the mid eighties when the police were really cool. They would help the righteous and arrest the bad guys. All of that changed and as a result God has cursed them. There is widespread corruption and a conspiracy to obstruct justice. I have been assaulted by the police, robbed by the police, persecuted by the police, and I cannot get 911 emergency service. I have called them and they never show up. They are on the list of who will be set on fire and sent to Hell when the Messiah comes. Pigs rot in Hell.

People hate the police because they are law ENFORCERS.

Most laws are on the books to force people to do things they don’t want to with the ultimate threat of the enforcer’s gun. Very few sensible laws actually need enforcement, at least not with the threat of a gun.

Of course in this day, most laws are on the books to benefit whoever pushed to get that law on the books, the very first thing sboy lists on this string and subconsciously people feel that, even if they don’t consciously realize it.

Finally, people hate cops because most people who want that badge and gun are underneath their exterior, crooks. The name “cop” came from the habit of policemen to cop (steal) small things, like an apple from the vendors push carts, etc. When I was a kid who had stolen a stop watch from the school gym, and I managed to bluff my way out. They couldn’t prove I’d done it, but the police chief knew I had, and he told me that I was clever, and predicted that some day I would be a top criminal, or a top cop. (When I got out of the service he tried to recruit me.)

Btw, the IQ average for cops is 107, which puts them in the upper, average, (90 to 110) and thirteen points below the mental level needed to be able to think for themselves. There have actually been cases where people could not get on the cops because they were too smart, and lawsuits were brought.

I want the police around, and put up with the problems they cause, since all societies do need muscle to protect the mob, and I have several cops and former cops as friends. It is the politicians that we need to get rid of.

Interesting view point.

To be honest, I thought people only hated getting caught by cops, but when needed, can be highly useful sons of guns.

As an aside, when I was in college, one of my friends and classmates was a Homicide sergeant on the LA Police force. I mention him because of the unique weapon he carried when off duty. It was an H and R (Harrington-Richardson) 22 magnum 2 shot derringer. It was impossible to see outlines of it because it was designed to be carried in the front pants pocket in a special pocket shaped holster . Both holster and gun are very unique. The weapon was hammerless, double action and the trigger guard was open in the front so that he could reach into his pocket and fire through the pocket if need be.

He had needed it only once. When he was in a store being robbed. He waited till the perp was outside, so that the people in the store were safe, then pulled the weapon and attempted to arrest the perp. Instead the guy ran so my friend chased him into a field and when it was safe to do so, shot the guy in the leg. And that was all it took. Now that was a thinking cop. (Very successful doctor after graduation also, in one of the celebrity towns in So.Cal.)
