I am no Tea Partier, but I subscribe to their newsletter to keep up with what they are all about, and they sold my email address to other wacko-bird organizations. Here's one I just got from AMERICAN LIBERTY PAC:

Dear Lover of Liberty,

You may recall conservative Congressman Jim Bridenstine. While Ted Cruz labored to Defund Obamacare in the Senate, Jim was working away, making a principled stand, in the House of Representatives.

Jim's a former Navy pilot and a liberty-loving conservative from Oklahoma. The RINO Establishment hates him -- John Boehner even threatened to primary him at the next election for standing with Ted Cruz.

But Jim's not scared of RINOs and now he's come up with a Bill that will send these Big Government fans and the tax'n'spend Democrats into a fury.

He's introduced a Bill to repeal the 16th Amendment

That's the one that allows the federal government to levy the income tax

The result of this repeal will be to eliminate personal and corporate income tax -- ALL OF IT -- as well as all estate and gift taxes, and taxes on investment earnings at the federal level.

<DONATION SOLICITATION OMITTED>

Just imagine if they weren't squeezing us what we could do with our money! And all the things we could stop the government wasting it on!

We all know that income tax discourages investment, innovation, risk-taking and job creation. It sends jobs overseas. It's complex to administer and supports thousands and thousands of bureaucrats. It applies rules differently to each one of us and is massively abused as a political weapon to suppress dissent.

And let's face it -- the IRS is an out of control agency with tentacles in everyone's lives. The Founding Fathers never intended for the government to be so intrusive.

Jim Bridenstine is RIGHT! It's time to end the IRS.

The 16th Amendment must be repealed and the IRS should be eliminated.

As Congressman Bridenstine says, "Viable alternative plans for raising revenue fairly to support constitutionally enumerated functions of the federal government have been proposed. As long as the 16th Amendment is in place and lobbyists dominate Washington, these alternatives will never be considered."

<DONATION SOLICITATION OMMITTED>

Did you know that next year federal government taxes work out at $29,673 each for full-time working Americans? That's more than many people even make!!!

All because of the ill-considered 16th Amendment which reads:

The Congress shall have the power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

Translation: Congress has absolute power to levy income tax.

Let's end it. Let's get behind Jim and push for a constitutional amendment. It'll be hard but it's not impossible. An Amendment can be repealed by another Amendment, and just needs approval from three fourths of the states for ratification. It's doable if we fight.

Come! Join with me. There's revolution in the air. The Dems are weakened through the battering we're giving them on Obamacare, Benghazi, NSA spying, and all the other scandals. We can do this! We can eliminate federal taxation and put an end to the Internal Revenue Service.

<DONATION SOLICITATION OMMITTED>

Congressman Bridenstine wants me to reach out to the grassroots...

...because Congress listens to outraged citizens

Remember, when they fear for their seats -- they listen to us.

You must know I want you at my side. And I'm sure you realize that to reach out to millions of Americans, I'm going to need some financial help from patriotic Americans like you.

<DONATION SOLICITATION OMMITTED>

I have to warn you, this will be one helluva fight. The forces against us are amassing in frightening numbers, and they are gearing up to throw everything they've got at us.

This is not the time to cave in and yield to the Left's ultimate goal -- to make us another failed socialist state. We are AMERICA. We are Liberty's greatest, brightest hope. We are Ronald Reagan's "Shining city on the hill."

I took care of my Dad for the last 10 years of his life, and believe me, he received mail every day from the democrat fund raisers, and it wasn't nearly as polite as your example. So don't try to make it look like only the conservatives send out solicitation letters. Dad was a FDR voter till he couldn't vote anymore, and the DNC milked him dry--till my brother and I took over his finances. He was in a nursing home for a while, and the staff filled out an absentee ballot for him--saying he voted for Bill Clinton! This is an indication of how people like barry get elected!

I didn't try anything of the sort! The topic is repeal of the 16th Amendment!

I get solicitation letters and emails from democrats, too, and I don't like getting those either. I don't mind so much getting solicitations to support candidates at election time; but I get really bugged getting them throughout the year every time there is some controversial legislative proposal pending. WTF! I think they (both parties) are just trying to line their pockets with these off-cycle donations. PAC's are out of control!

American history is filled with haters and punishers whose feelings of powerlessness in our enormous society and whose need for increased self-esteem have led to reactionary movements. The Klan, for instance, and the John Birch Society; now the outacontrol,corporate-funded Tea Partiers. Yet the problem is not government itself; the problem is incompetents and power-hungry, self-serving demagogues who are elected to power or who have power bought for them. The problem is not the income tax itself; it is the wealthy who can afford to buy their way out of it and found organizations that can frighten everyone else and hire media mouths who can do the same. It is amazing that the wealthy and their corporations can "recruit" not only most congresspersons but also millions of ordinary, hard-working Americans to help them screw Americans and ruin the economy and government. Will such wonders ever cease?

I agree with both you and claytonln about PACs.

I'm hearing crickets on the topic of repealing the 16th Amendment, though. Does that mean that all of the conservatives on here disagree with Congressman Jim Bridenstine's proposal to do away with federal income taxes altogether? I'm curious to know how people think the government would be funded if were successful. Real estate taxes? Sales taxes?

Frankly, I don't think he is at all serious. It's just another typical Tea Party political-theater trick to solidify himself among his wacko-bird constituents. Kind of like how there were 40 meaningless bills proposed in the House to defund Obamacare just so Tea Party congressmen can put on their resumes that they voted against Obamacare.

I would repeal the 16th,17th,and 18th, amendments. :thumbup:

I just read a book "Extortion". It talks alot about pac's. IMO, they should be ban. Politician's are in constant fund raising mode. Once that money goes into a pac it can be funneled into personal accts.

As opposed to some (you), I try to not to name call and denigrate individuals simply because I may not agree with their positions or find fault with their ideas. :thumbdown: :|

Rather then totally write off the idea relating to the 16th Amendment, why not use it as a working premise relating to taxes. Perhaps the starting point should be what programs do the citizens fund, through taxes, which have added value. I could choose, as an example, a large obvious program. I choose to use a small grant given using our tax money. In 2012, an university (whose name I cannot remember) was given $230,000 (rounded) to study why lesbians have a high rate of obesity. R E A L L Y :thumbdown: :thumbdown: that money could have been utilized to provide additional funding for Veterans health care, or funds for children's food assistance, or replace funds taken from the Social Security Fund or for any number other "added value" programs. Does the sum sound small? Yes, it does; however $230,000 can add up VERY quickly. Another grant was in the amount of approximately $135,000 for the study of some obscure bug mating practices. Again, R E A L L Y :!: :thumbdown: :thumbdown:

It may provide laughter; however, I would recommend the movie Dave. It came out more then a long while ago, but had a VALID scene. The "fake" president had to balance the budget. He called all of the Cabinet members in. They went through every department budget by line item. Ultimately, they placed the budget by cutting utterly stupid useless programs.

To provide you with the chance at insults, I have no issue with writing funding agency by agency and presenting it agency by agency. No citizen could read the full budget (something that has not occurred in three-four years); however, having available each departments budget individually is a doable study for a citizen.

You may now bring forth whatever insults you deem appropriate, as you are wont to do. :|

I know, I'm digressing. I am trying to point out that the blame rests ultimately with stupid voters. They are the lowest common denominator. This is what happens when self-serving idiots vote for self-serving scoundrels.
