You'd think a thing like Fox couldn't happen in the U.S.. Although they're free to be crazy and free to support the Republican Party, you'd think, Americans would be too smart to fall for the make-up outrages, dishonest reporting and relentless appeal to our meaner nature. Many Americans are not as smart as we used to assume: a large swath of Americans (mostly the elderly in the South) believe Fox is just another news media outlet. They aren't!

That story is worth copy-and-pasting in its entirety. There are actually countless examples one could point out in their everyday "reporting".:

You’d think a thing like FOX couldn’t happen in the United States. Although they’re free to be crazy and free to support the Republican Party, you’d think Americans would be too smart to fall for the made-up outrages, dishonest reporting and relentless appeal to our meaner nature. Unfortunately, many Americans are not as smart as we used to assume: a huge swath of Americans (especially elderly white Southerners) believe FOX is just another news media outlet. They aren’t.

What is FOX? Pensitore Review pulled no punches in answering that question back in 2009:

FOX News is indisputably the most popular cable news channel. And yet in 13 years, Fox has never broken a story. That’s okay, because it is not in the news business. It is in the news-shaping business. Its programming is an admixture of right-wing propaganda and fear-porn for feeble-minded paranoiacs, served up by spokesmodels who have no clue what they are reading.

Whew! Could that be true? I report/You decide:

Nixon White House aide Roger Ailes in the 1970′s created fake news stories that favored President Nixon. He shipped these pre-mixed video packages to TV stations around the country at the expense of rightwing extremist Joseph Coors. It was all b.s. all the time, but the TV stations, pretending they had a correspondent in Washington, ran this propaganda as straight news. Now that Ailes runs FOX News, his goals are the same: to spread republicanism by altering the news.
◾FOX is a “relentless agenda-driven 24 hour news opinion propaganda delivery system” ~Jon Stewart
◾“They’re a Republican brand. They’re an extension of the Republican Party with some exceptions” ~Larry King
◾‎”[Fox is] widely viewed as a part of the Republican Party: take their talking points and put them on the air, take their opposition research and put it on the air. And that’s fine. But let’s not pretend they’re a news organization like CNN is.” ~Anita Dunn

There are thousands of examples of FOX not just “leaning” in a particular direction on an issue… but actively changing around the words and meanings of interviews to make them seem to say the opposite of what the person interviewed actually said; of lies about what happened; of incorrect graphics…for example, calling Congressman Mark Foley a Democrat when he got caught in gay chatter with pages and calling Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords a Republican when there was an outpouring of sympathy for her after she got shot.

FOX took a sparsely-attended tea-party rally in Washington and spliced in video of a heavily-attended event of an entirely different nature from months earlier.

FOX has gotten caught using image manipulation software to edit the appearance of people they don’t like to make them appear more sinister.

FOX alters poll results to mislead its viewers; in one case, their massacre of a Rasmussen poll on climate change ended up with a poll number of 120%–mathematically impossible, of course, except in FOX world.

On 4-24-09… White House correspondent Wendell Goler cropped a comment by Obama and took it out of context — effectively reversing the statement’s meaning — to falsely suggest that Obama supports creating a health care system “like the European countries.”

A 2010 Ohio State University study of public misperceptions about the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque” found that viewers who relied on Fox News were 66% more likely to believe incorrect rumors than those with “low reliance” on Fox News ~Wikipedia

A study by the Program on International Policy Attitudes showed 67% of Fox viewers believed that the “U.S. has found clear evidence in Iraq that Saddam Hussein was working closely with the al Qaeda terrorist organization” (He wasn’t. He hated, feared and banned them, but you’d never know that by watching FOX).

Wait, it gets worse: For all other networks and news sources, the MORE you watch them, the MORE you know about the actual facts. Those who view CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, & NPR the MOST, have the BEST grasp of the FACTS. With FOX it – is- the – opposite!! Which is what gave birth to the mocking slogan: THE MORE YOU WATCH FOX, THE LESS YOU KNOW.

In the summer of 2003, 34% of Americans who did not follow the news very closely believed evidence had been found that linked Iraq with al Qaeda before the U.S. invasion. 42% of people who were moderate consumers of FOX news had that opinion. Among those who “watched FOX News very closely” … that number was 80% !! ~Political Science Quarterly, Vol. 118, #4 THE MORE YOU WATCH FOX, THE LESS YOU KNOW!

FOX News’ Happening Now cropped clips of Obama from an April 3 speech in France to falsely suggest that Obama only criticized the United States. In doing so, Happening Now joined conservative commentators and Fox News hosts who have cropped or misrepresented Obama’s overseas remarks to falsely suggest, in the words of host Sean Hannity, that Obama was “blam[ing] America first” and, more broadly, that Obama’s earlier overseas trip constituted an “apology tour.”

Fox News presented a clip of Joe Biden criticizing John McCain’s “the fundamentals of the economy are strong” statement…. Problem is, this was something Biden was QUOTING…from SIX MONTHS EARLIER… but it was edited by FOX to make it seem that Biden was stating it as his own opinion. The bogus clip was introduced by Live Desk co-host Martha MacCallum as comments Biden had made in interviews THIS WEEKEND.

FOX pushed the bogus stat that cap-and-trade would cost “every American family $1,761 annually.” PolitiFact.com has labeled the statistic false and noted that the talking point has been pushed by Republicans.

On 9/30/09 FOX Gregg Jarrett said on the air that the Obama Department of Justice “thinks it’s OK to intimidate white people, not OK to intimidate black people at the polls.”

‎”If we went back … to the fall of 2008, to the campaign, that was a time this country was in two wars that we had a financial collapse probably more significant than any financial collapse since the Great Depression. If you were a Fox News viewer in the fall election what you would have seen were that the biggest stories and the biggest threats facing America were a guy named Bill Ayers and a something called ACORN.” ~Anita Dunn

A 2011 Kaiser Family Foundation survey on U.S. misconceptions about health care reform found that Fox News viewers scored lower for factual knowledge than other news viewers.

HOUSTON, November 21, 2013—In May of 2013, an Obama scandals “user handbook” was created to track the various corruption scandals engulfing the administration.

As new scandals developed and new information came to light, the user handbook was updated only one month later.

Six months after the original handbook, it is necessary to offer yet another updated Obama scandals user handbook.

Liberals dismiss various investigations into the growing number of misdeeds scandals as “witch hunts” of “phony scandals” motivated by everything from partisanship to racism.

In the real world, the problem is not the bringing to light of misdeeds. It is the misdeeds themselves. Liberals attack Fox News for being the only network pursuing the scandals. If the other networks would do their jobs and stop shilling for the Obama administration, Fox News would not be standing alone. Only a perverse sense of responsibility would blame one network for refusing to be lazy and willfully neglectful.

To avoid reiteration, referring to the original handbook and the first update can get people caught up to date. This updated handbook is devoted solely to new scandals and new information on the older ones.

The Census Bureau has been accused in recent days of manipulating jobs numbers in the months before the 2012 elections to make them more favorable to the Obama administration. The October 2012 numbers are now being questioned as fraudulent. The Census Bureau has commissioned a public Inspector General investigation.

The Affordable Care Act seems to be the source of a new scandal every week. The website rollout was a debacle. A main contractor was a college friend of Michelle Obama, as cronyism replaced quality. The Obama administration was warned in March that the website would not be ready by October 1st, but they pushed ahead anyway. They knew that the site was vulnerable to security and privacy violations, but persisted. The website has been hacked several times since it went live.

The website is the tip of the iceberg. President Obama has been caught lying about key aspects of the Obamacare law itself. Claims that “if you like your doctor or health plan, you can keep your doctor or health plan” have been proven false. On November 14th, Obama insisted the only people affected were the “five percent” in the individual insurance market. Days later evidence surfaced that the Justice Department was targeting group insurance policies as well.

Obama has violated the Constitution by unilaterally suspending certain aspects of the law such as the employer mandate but not the individual mandate. Now he is trying to give tax breaks to unions and other ideological allies without congressional approval.

Benghazi New developments are coming to light. Whistleblowers are being demoted and survivors of the 9/11/12 attack on the Libyan Consulate are being hidden from the media. Eyewitnesses are slowly revealing that they saw a professional attack, not a spontaneous uprising as Obama and his cabinet claimed. While Obama has never confirmed his own whereabouts that night, one staffer claimed he was playing cards with Obama at the time.

IRS—Lois Lerner was forced into retirement, but she still has her full government pension. Nobody has been held accountable for targeting half the country for disagreeing with Obama personally.

Fast and Furious—The only development in this otherwise dormant scandal has Attorney General Eric Holder appealing his contempt of Congress citation.

EPA—From Solyndra and other fraudulent green investments to former EPA Director Lisa Jackson’s secret email account, this scandal has stalled.

NSA—England and Germany are now mad that we spied on them. This may be the least serious scandal, especially these developments. Every nation spies on every other nation and Russia’s Vladimir Putin at least manages to hide his ethical breaches under extreme competence with carrying his spying out.

The last remaining scandal remains the entire Obama record and the liberal media’s refusal to cover it honestly.

I got it now. FOX informs us about what Obama is doing to this country and all the others tell you everything else trying to distract everyone from what Obama is doing to this country. Thank you for pointing that out.

It really just blows my mind how many people can think for even a minute that Fox News isn't full of bullshit! The only show that is "Fair and Balanced" on Fox is Chris Wallace's Sunday morning show. All one has to do is watch his show, then any other Fox show to see the difference. I can't help but wonder why his show is so much different. I think the answer is because educated people watch the Sunday morning shows. The evening shows...not so much.

If Fox News were to ever go off air their devout viewers would be left to watch the news channels that report the facts, and we both know they would never be able to cope with that!

It has always amazed me how people can follow the Democratic Party right off the cliff and into quick sand. How you notice how the Democrats always has it's hand out for someone to save them or come to their aid. It's almost like the 1960's and on, when the people took to the streets in protest and then rioting against the Democrats in office over the Vietnam War and other problems. Americans were being shot dead in the streets also, Students were shot and killed at colleges. Did everyone forgot the time LBJ called in the Military and they were shooting and killing Americans?? Have you Older Americans forgot??? It wasn't a Pretty Scene! Then you had the Blacks Protesting for their Freedom and the Democratic Governments States, Counties, Cities and Schools all over America was fighting Blacks over the Civil Rights. Have you forgot about that as well??? That was all the Democrats fault. As Americans have you forgot, Republicans fought to FREE the Blacks from Slavery. Do you know who started the KKK??? The Democrats. As you review history the Democrats, it has caused more problems in American than any other Parties. It has always been the Democrat Party, that has been trying to Destroy America. One other thing. If you will take about 5 to 8 hours and do your OWN research and look back over the pass economies in America and the Presidents that ran them, you will see very clearly that the Democrats President and the Democrat Party has always ruined America Economy while in charge. The Republican have always had to pull it out of Disarray. Republicans have always had the BEST Economies with the Lowest unemployment and the American people are making more money. Every time Democrats get in charge American goes in to the TANK.
There is just One Party to blame here in American as it stands today. The Democrat Party and Obama. Once again American is in the TANK.

For avid Fox News viewers cognitive dissonance will never be a problem, for their mental capacity can only conceive one thought at a time!
