The Republican Party is Destroying America

The Republican Party is Destroying America. Harsh words, yes. But inescapably true. It's a bit of murder suicide. House Republicans' willingness to lay waste to the country, to satisfy their fringiest faction will ultimately guarantee the GOP's irrelevancy as a national party, unless they change their way. In the meantime they seem determined to take us all down with them.

If the president refuses to defund Obamacare, House Republicans are happy to retaliate with a government shutdown. What they’re really headed for is complete ruination, says Kirsten Powers.

Damn I didn't know Powers had a crystal ball.

Recently the Republicans made history and even 50 years from now people will recall. Republicans' closed the government to keep their fellow Americans from getting affordable health care!

Evidently you are unaware, which is not surprising, that Bush's Medicare Plan D 2005 had the same problems as Obamacare and now 8 years later it is wildly popular! Be patient you will love ACA!

Man, that skull of yours is thick, Wolfe, I mean, we're talking tons of concrete poured around a lead shield. No facts in, no facts out.

There have been 17 government shutdowns since 1976

Sept. 30 to Oct. 11, 1976, (10 days) POTUS Ford, Democrats controlled both houses.
Sept. 30 to Oct. 13, 1977 (12 days) POTUS Carter, Democrats controlled both houses
Oct. 31 to Nov. 9, 1977 (8 days) Carter, Democrats controlled both houses
Nov. 30 to Dec. 9, 1977 (8 days) Carter, Democrats controlled both houses
Sept. 30 to Oct.18, 1978 (18 days) Carter, Democrats controlled both houses
Sept. 30 to Oct. 12, 1979 (11 days) Carter. Democrats controlled both houses
Nov. 20-23, 1981 ( 2 days) Reagan, Republicans controlled the Senate, Dems controlled the House.
Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, 1982 (1 day) Reagan, Republicans controlled the Senate, Dems controlled the House.
Dec.17-21, 1982 (3 days) Reagan, Republicans controlled the Senate, Dems controlled the House.
Nov. 10-14, 1983 (3 days) Reagan, Republicans controlled the Senate, Dems controlled the House
Sept. 30 to Oct. 3, 1984 ( 2 days) Reagan, Republicans controlled the Senate, Dems controlled the House
Oct. 3-5, 1984 (1 day) Reagan, Republicans controlled the Senate, Dems controlled the House
Oct. 16-18, 1986 (1 day) Reagan, Republicans controlled the Senate, Dems controlled the House
Dec. 18-20, 1987 (1 day) Reagan, Democrats controlled both houses.
Oct. 5-9, 1990 (3 days) George H.W. Bush, Democrats controlled both houses.
Nov. 13-19, 1995 ( 5 days) Clinton, Republicans controlled both houses.
Dec. 5, 1995 to Jan. 6, 1996 (21 days) Clinton, Republicans controlled both houses.
Oct. 1, 2013 to Oct 16, 2013, (16 days) Obama, Dems control the Senate, Republicans control the House.

Let me break that down.

You will note that under Dubya there were no shutdowns at all.

Under a Democrat president, the government was shutdown an accumulative total of 99 days.

Under a Republican president, the the government was shutdown an accumulative total of 26 days.

In 14 of these 17 shutdowns, the Dems controlled the House (Remember, the House is where the money comes from.)

And, thank God, every time, we barely managed to avoid total disaster. Could have been curtains for all of us. So damned close.

The fact is, Wolfe, that Charlatan the First and Dirty Hairy forced this recent shutdown, and it only effected non-essential government employees who were eventually compensated in full for their furloughs (In effect, this involved only 17% of the entire government work force). But dear little Barry had to manufacture some sort of crisis to make it look like "dem damn Repubs" did it. So, he fired up the National Parks Service with orders to punish American citizens, then got out his teleprompter and did what he does best, lie to the American people.

And you bought it, hook, line, and sinker..

17 government shutdowns since 1976.

Sorry, Raylan, wrong again!

The republicans in the house offered four different bills that would have kept the government running, including a delay of the individual mandate, which, BTW, the asshole-ident has recently agreed to do, but were turned down by your party, thus shutting down government.......it was not us who did that, it was you guys.......get your information from a trustworthy source, try watching Fox News.

The 17 shutdowns mentioned did not actually entail a stop to government functioning. They were often simply funding gaps that little effect on the economy! Of the Presidents during these shutdowns, 10 were Republicans and 7 were Democrats. The American people are not even aware of these shutdowns due to so small an impact. Come Nov. 2014 they will remember the dysfunction and dishonesty of the Republican house, and their pathetic attempt to deny Americans affordable health care! This post comes with facts included!

Neither did this last one create any huge damage, other than the Power Show Obama gave the Veterans.

Standard and Poor's reported that the 16 day shutdown delivered a massive $24 billion hit to the U.S. economy!
