Hello Larry, and thank you all for the kind welcome. I'd have to say that if I have a "pet peeve", it might be...extremism of any kind. I think it causes more harm than good in the end. I believe that everything works better in balance, and when people seek out the common ground.

That's very true which is why I don't identify with any party. Parties seem to feel that extremes are the only way to separate themselves from others. That makes the "common ground " a no mans land. I'm trying to get people to vote out dems and repubs thereby forcing cooperation.

Well, I'm happy to see somebody of a like mind! Don't get me wrong. I'm passionate about certain issues, but I also fully understand that we are a very large, diverse nation. The far Left, and the far Right are NEVER going to be able to impose their extreme views on the rest of us. That is a complete impossibility. All both sides end up doing is disrupting any progress for all of those who are in between the two extremes. That's fine which them because if their choice is "all or nothing at all", they are happy with "nothing at all" rather than give up something in exchange for something. They can't think that way.

So then you register as an Independent, and can't vote in the primaries. But you can have your say in the final voting. The only problem is, that you might totally agree with one side or the other. Most of the time, nobody agrees totally with any one way of doing things, but your opinion is usually lost in the noise of the event. Your best bet, is to write and complain to the candidate if you don't like what they stand for. It probably won't change anything, but you will feel better.

Well....I keep the phone numbers of my representatives right in my cell phone. This way, I can call in my opinion whenever or wherever I am.

What do you think of extreme groups attempting to purge their parties of anybody who isn't as extreme as they are in the primaries...and then they end up LOSING to the opposing party in the general election??? How are they helping themselves??? It seems that they'd rather end up with 100% of nothing as opposed to 80% of something! I do not understand that mentality.

Isn't it better to take the 80% offered by the less extreme candidate and win??? Then, at least, they can still have a place at the table, and maybe change minds over time with regard to the other 20%.

Well you are being reasonable, since when is that a condition of partisanship? I wonder what would be the outcome if we all registered as Independents, and let them guess which way we would go. When we register as either party, we signal to them that they are right. Or at least that is what they think .

I'm not sure that we all have to necessarily become independents. I think we could go a long way by trying to curb the most extreme elements within BOTH major parties. To my mind, they are the one's obstructing progress for the greatest number of people who are in the middle. I think both parties have some good ideas. I don't want to get issue oriented here because THAT'S what brings out the emotions of a lot of posters on these types of boards, and then they try to make those issues the focus of the discussion.

I acknowledge and respect the passion of these folks, but what I have issues with sometimes is the WAY in which they try to advance their causes. In a large diverse society such as ours is, "muscle" never works! One side will never be able to ram their views down the throats of the rest of us! And, when one side tries it, it sometimes results in a backlash which ends up HURTING their cause!

So, when these very passionate and issue oriented people try to force their respective parties to do their bidding, or they will not cooperate in getting OTHER things done...I think they need to be told to take a hike! How do we do that??? We elect more moderates who can then, in turn...marginalize the extremists. If they want to have a place at the table, fine. But, they need to lower their voices, and respect other views, and their views will be respected as well. How am I doing so far???

Your comments???

the big problem here is that most people that complain about extreme ideas they mean the T.E.A. party and all they want is to follow the constitution and that is only extreme to the RINOS and liberals
