I just discovered that there are 8 million more impoverished whites than blacks in the US (actual numbers, not percentages). It was also stated that 97% of the poorest counties are in red states. I wonder why conservatives in OPP always remind you of black poverty and leave white poverty unmentioned? It hints at the notion that their concern is not necessarily about poverty specifically in the generic sense of the word. It is more about an issue to use to castigate specific American citizens. The same with tragedy and crime. It is a sad state of affairs to take the misfortunes of or unfortunate situations encountered by individuals and use them in an opportunistic manner just to strengthen an argument and not much more. Look at Trump...what has he said about white poverty in particular the way he outlined it as it supposedly exists for blacks that was inaccurate in front of a totally white crowd? It was an opportunity to go about a subtle way of just telling a audience of whites specific reasons why blacks are pieces of shit. At the same time, he tries to peddle that bullshit as outreach.

According to US Poverty Statistics released September 2015, the poverty rate for white Americans is 10.1 percent (19.7 million of 195.2 million) while the poverty rate for black Americans is 26.2 percent (10.8 million of 41.1 million).

The only reason that there are more white Americans in poverty is that there are 4.7 times more whites than blacks in the US. But as a percentage of their race, there are 2.5 times more blacks than whites in poverty.

The same methodology applies to crime.

Based on that, shouldn’t we more concerned about blacks because of the much higher percentages among their race?

No we should be concerned about all and also realize that checks are sent to actual people and not percentages. Would you rather have 50% of 1000 or 1% of 100 million?
