A coupe of months ago the wife reads people are stealing garage door openers and using them to get into houses down in Lakeland. She then reads this today and says were getting a yard light period !

I wonder what happened to that guy up in Little Falls who shot those 2 youths?

I support him, too. If that happened to me, my dog would wake me, and I would grab my Glock 9mm from my nightstand and blow the ba$tard away the minute I saw he was armed. No questions asked.

Yes, I wondered also it was newsworthy for quite a time but have not heard a thing for weeks or months.. Probable not go on trial for another year... And speaking of trial, part of my posting was wondering if this man will be charged..He did knock the intruder to next week, took his gun and so he shot an unarmed person..Does anyone think someone will find a charge to arrest him on? If so, that would be a real crime...

Man who shot unarmed young black girl looking for help after car crash, got no charges. She only knocked on his door. Armed intruders? Kill em. Knock on my door? Depends who or what you are.

It happens both ways, in Minnesota, we have had some county DAs make some strange charges to show how hard they work..A few counties from here, a 70 plus old man chased intruders off his property with a shot gun. He left his home and chased then down the road. Did not hit them, but did shoot...He was arrested charged held in Isanti county jail for a time..Took a good sized demonstration and threat of counter charges to get everything to normal..Maybe 4 - 5 yrs ago.. A grandson goes to kindergarten in Sandstone so my daughter, knows this person..I do not but have a big interest in this...

Yep, it's nuts. There should be a law against using criminal prosecution to make "statements".

The instant you hesitated to see if he was armed, you most likely would have been shot. Just coming through the door is justification enough, at least where I live.

I agree with you about an intruder coming through the door being justification enough to shoot him, but I disagree with you about the perp shooting me before I shot him if I waited to see if he had a gun. I would agree with that, too, though, if I lived in a one-story ranch or similar home that would not allow me much reaction time. I live in a 3-story townhouse, and my bedroom is on the top floor. An intruder has no option to enter than from the ground floor. My dog would hear the intrusion, and I would be up and armed well before the intruder could make his way up 2 flights of stairs, especially since he would not be likely to do so straightaway. None of us knows, with certainty, how we would react, and odds are that I would probably not try to read the maker's name on his gun before shooting him, but if I saw that the intruder coming up my stairs was carrying only a knife or a bat, I might very well try to just scare him off and call the police. I have no bloodlust.

Many people think that killing some "thug" would feel good. Either they've never killed anyone before or they need mental health attention. I used to hunt a lot until I was in combat now I have lost my desire to kill anything. I'll defend my family but I don't look forward to killing.

If you see a knife or a bat in hand doesn't mean he doesn't have one on him. It's not bloodlust to shoot an intruder with a knife or bat... It's self-defense... Don't assume what you see is all an intruder has as a weapon...

I'm just telling you, from my experience, this kind of thinking will get you killed. You're assuming the dog is still in the picture, and that the perp is an idiot (which he/she may very well be, but one can't assume that). I've seen more than one victim talk just like you do, and you notice I said "victim?" Please take some self defense courses before you have to defend yourself and your family in a situation like this.

It has nothing to do with bloodlust, you don't know what is going through the perps mind, nor do you what he is on. Just some advice.

I have taken self-defense courses, and I still disagree with your assertion that one must shoot to kill any intruder. You are trying to make a point, and I understand that. But your insistence on shooting to kill someone even if they have no lethal weapon is not advice I will take.
