Just happened to remind me of "Dr. Strangelove, or How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Bomb".

My comment on RT was: (Under the name "KiraSeer2016"--my name in Russian, and also the name of the protagonist in "We, the Living.")

"Really, Vlad. Are you saying that instead of killing 300 million people, this "less powerful nuke" only kills 100 million. That's comforting."

I thought of the war room scene in Dr Strangelove. Go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuP6KbIsNK4

I agree with Denzel in Crimson Tide, "In nuclear war, the true enemy is war itself."

Less powerful nukes have always been felt to make nuclear war winnable with a greater chance of having something left afterward. Remember the neutron bomb, designed to kill the people with radiation but minimal explosive force to preserve the infrastructure. Stupid.

MAD is just that, MAD. There is nothing positive about it. What a barbaric way to stop oneself from obliterating your "enemy."

At any rate, nwtk, there has not been a world war since the first-and-last time the atomic bomb was dropped. That may not be the sole reason, but it is certainly a contributing factor. I think even Stalin understood the absolute destructiveness of nuclear weapons.

ISIS, on the other hand, may very well be interested in the usefulness of its destructiveness. Remember, they might be counting on the fact that one-twelfth of the earth's population will survive.

That is certainly true. If they had one, they'd use it. It is absolutely impairative they not obtain that destructiveness.

It has been said, that even the peaceful uses of nuclear energy is suspect. Because of the transport of spent nuclear fuel.

It's true. We need to abandon fission. A future in fusion, however, is something to pursue. Not in bombs of course!

Ass the technology develops, it will be interesting to see, but probably, it would be harder to make an explosive fusion reactor than a non-explosive one.
