Trump Walks Into Room of Cocky Senators, Instantly Cuts Them Down to Size

Billionaire businessman and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was on Capitol Hill Thursday to meet with GOP lawmakers in a bid to firm up support for his campaign and strengthen party unity.

Unfortunately for Trump, there are still a few senators that don’t see eye to eye with him, and words were exchanged during an at-times tense closed-door meeting, according to The Washington Post.

One of those senators was Jeff Flake of Arizona, who has been highly critical of Trump’s purportedly racist stance against illegal immigration, which Trump reportedly noted.

“Yes, I’m the other senator from Arizona — the one who didn’t get captured — and I want to talk to you about statements like that,” Flake replied, referring to Trump’s remarks early in the campaign season about Sen. John McCain.

Trump responded by noting that he hadn’t even really attacked Flake hard, yet, but would do so if necessary.

He also reportedly had words for Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk, who had withdrawn his endorsement of Trump following his purportedly racist comments about the judge overseeing the Trump University lawsuit. Trump predicted he could win the typically blue state without the senator’s support.

Kirk responded later by telling Associated Press, “We haven’t seen a personality like his too much in the Midwest. Eastern, privileged, wealthy bully. Our bullies are made of better stuff in Illinois.”

Trump also spoke with Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse, one of the more outspoken remnants of the #NeverTrump movement. Sasse’s spokesman stated afterwards that despite a gracious meeting between the two, nothing had changed, and, “(T)his election remains a dumpster fire.”

Lest one think the meeting was all bad, Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford thought otherwise: “It seemed blunt but it wasn’t tense … Trump’s comment at the end didn’t come across as a threat. It was, ‘I’m gaining popularity in your state and get on board because if you’re fighting against me, the people in your state support me.'”

Campaign chair Paul Manafort had a similar take in a statement to The Post: “Today’s meeting was positive and productive and these characterizations, attributed to unnamed sources, are wholly inaccurate. The conversation was very positive and substantive.”

“The Members were in total agreement with Mr. Trump of the need to unite the party and work together to win the presidency and keep a Republican Congress,” Manafort continued. “Mr. Trump was pleased with the discussion and looks forward to working together with the Republican Party leadership toward defeating Hillary Clinton in November.”

A few noted stragglers aside, Trump has made gains in rallying and uniting the GOP around his candidacy, though work still needs to be done.

Hopefully, these last few holdouts will realize that, for whatever disagreements they may have with Trump, he remains the better option by far when compared with the manifestly corrupt and dishonest presumptive Democrat nominee, Hillary Clinton.

Mark Kirk is an asshole and is good friends with Dick Durbin the very liberal democrat which then makes Mark Kirk a RINO. I have been hoping and praying for a good solid Republican to come along and unseat him and the same goes for Adam Kinzinger.

I an not ready to write Trump off yet and put Hillary in charge. I have been listening to some prophesy messages and there is evidence of America being strong and defending Israel in the end times. I don't see Hillary or the democrats ever increasing our military and in fact I see Hillary further reducing and destroying our military much like Obama has done, For this reason alone I see Hillary losing and Trump winning or if that were not to occur then we would have to wait for some time in the future when America would then be strong and able to support Israel. I just think that we are to close to the end times and therefore I believe that Hillary will be soundly defeated.

Lankford and Inhoff here in Oklahoma have a good record in City State and Federal positions. Inhoff was one of the best Mayors Tulsa ever had and Lankford was the Representative of the fifth district which includes most of central Oklahoma including Oklahoma City. I have no problem with either one of them. Now the Representative of my district #3 Frank Lucas is a different story RINO to the core. The only problem is no one runs against him because district 3 is mostly ranches and farms and he does help the agriculture community very much. None the less I do feel Trump is about our only hope going into this election to win our nation back. Anything short of a Trump win will spell disaster and may lead to a coup in the US like has never been seen before. All of those any one but Trump dumbasses do not know what they are talking about and hoping for. Lock and load America and Make America Great Again will be the battle cries.

I only wish I had your confidence. Then I would sleep much better at night and my blood pressure would be lower. I keep hearing from my Christian friends - I am one too - that God will take care of this Country that was founded on His principles. I like that but, if so, why did he let BHO get elected and Hillary get so far ahead. Maybe He has another plan. He must have, because the current one couldn't possibly be to His liking. I am praying every day that something happens to convince everyone that His plan includes Trump, not Hillary. I keep going back to a Bible passage in II Chronicles 16:9, that says, "The eyes of the Lord move to & fro throughout the Earth so that He may search out and completely support those whose heart is completely His." I realize that Donald Trump's name doesn't come immediately to mind, but we don't really know what is in his heart, do we? Trumps, that is.

Really simple both the Dems and Rep do not wan an outsider that would break up their status quo that they currently enjoy. They are like the WWF good show when the American voters are watching and big buddies when we are not.
Congress has a 23% approval rating that should tell you something and it should tell them something as well.
It is both parties and it is past time to change the direction of this country with a 19 Trillion dollar National debt.
Send the attorneys back to the court house the career or want to be's back to their house, send the crooks to the jail house and let's try four years of a non politician in the White House.

Those who are seeking "Anyone but Trump" are putting America First. When all nations leaders in the Industrialized Western World think he is totally unacceptable, abd his only International Supporters are Putin and Kim Jong Un, that alone should give you a clue.

What does he have as "solutions for America" other than "a wall", "exclude all Muslims", a tax and economic plan which will add 30 trillion dollars to the Federal Debt during an 8 year Trump Presidency as a result of tax cuts which benefit himself, and others like him in the top 2%?
Please list those viable proposals in your reply.

We have just witnessed the end of the European Union.

While Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to remain in the EU, England voted for Independence. The English decided to write their own laws and govern themselves.

At the same time as this vote, our media outlets reported that in May alone, the United States had run up a trade deficit in goods of $60 billion. This translates to an annual deficit of $720 billion in goods €” or nearly 4 percent of our GDP wiped out by purchases of foreign-made, rather than U.S.-made goods.

Donald Trump, commenting in western Pennsylvania, said: "€œWe got here because we switched from a policy of Americanism focusing on what's good for America"€™s middle class € to a policy of globalism, focusing on how to make money for large corporations who can move their wealth and workers to foreign countries, all to the detriment of the American worker and the American economy.€"

What might a Trump policy of Americanism over globalism look like? A 10 to 20 percent tariff on manufactured goods to wipe out trade deficits, with hundreds of billions in revenue that can be used to lessen or eliminate corporate taxes in America.

Trump also remarked that "€œthis wave of globalization has totally wiped out the middle class. It doesn"€™t have to be this way. We can turn it around and turn it around fast."

He has been painting Hillary Clinton as the champion of this kind of globalization which has pushed manufacturing jobs overseas. "€œWe have a leadership class that worships globalism over Americanism."

Trump promised to restore those millions of factory jobs by backing away from decades of U.S. trade policy.

Every American business would benefit, and every global company would have the incentive not only to move production to the U.S., but also have its headquarters here.

An "€œAmerica First"€ immigration policy would secure our border, cut legal immigrations to strengthen U.S. labor markets, strictly enforce our laws against those breaking into our country and get tough with businesses that make a practice of hiring people here illegally.

When looking at the Brexit vote in an American sense, Trump stated that, "they want to take their borders back. They want to take their monetary system back. They want to take a lot of things back. They want to be able to have a country again. So, I think you'€™re going to have this happen more and more. I really believe that, and I think that it's happening here in the United States."

Looking toward November, Trump sees this as his biggest weapon.

"€œCome November, the American people will have the chance to re-declare their independence. Americans will have a chance to vote for trade, immigration and foreign policies that put our citizens first. They will have the chance to reject today's rule by the global elite, and to embrace real change that delivers a government of, by, and for the people."

We are seeing an anti-establishment, nationalist, populist wave surging across Europe and the United States and Donald Trump could ride this wave to victory.

Good post bahmer. I too follow Bible prophecy and I'm taking a different slant. Sin has become soo ingrained into the culture of this nation, that I believe we are beyond the point where we read in II Chronicles 7:14 "If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land." I believe that (as much as it kills me to say it), Hillary will be paving the way for the NWO, the anti-Christ and the false prophet. We are there my friend.
