Nobody on either side of our family has gone to college except our granddaughter, who is smart. We are helping her with the cost as her parents couldn't afford to pay for her to go. She was an honors graduate from high school while playing all sports & taking AP classes, etc. so it would have been a real waste if she couldn't go. Thank goodness, she got a lot of scholarships that have really helped. She will be a junior next year (thank goodness, only 2 more years). I'm retired from the gov't and hubby is a farmer so we just watch all sales and help pay for college. She works as a server at Cracker Barrel & for the college in the athletics dept. to help keep costs down. If people want to go to college bad enough, they will work too for it and not expect it to be free. It's been a good life lesson for her and she's tighter than I am with her money, LOL !! She's on the dean's list most of the time so she works hard to get ahead or we wouldn't be helping to pay for her to party and not study, maybe we're mean but they appreciate it more if they contribute towards it. Just my humble opinion.
