No, it doesn't. It depends on circumstances. For example, the Apollo astronauts used the moon's gravity to pull their ship into a predetermined orbit around it, thereby sustaining a steady orbit of the command module without the need for the engine. Nothing went "straight down". And this applies to all bodies in the universe--due to gravitational force, satellites orbit the earth on this principle, the moon orbits earth, the earth orbits the sun, and so on.

Newton's law of universal gravitation states that every mass attracts every other mass in the universe, and the gravitational force between two bodies is proportional to the product of their masses, and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. Figure that one out, genius.

Doesn't say anything about "straight down." "Straight down" as an accurate description of gravitational force is a child's concept.

What you fail to comprehend about the WTC collapses is there was considerable mass in the path of the collapsing portion of the building, an obstacle that deflected massive pieces of the building away from the center of gravity of the entire mass, the result being that those pieces took a trajectory before falling to the earth. There were many forces in play during the collapses, not just gravity.

Maybe you don't even know what a trajectory is. Due to the force of gravity, a bullet follows a trajectory rather than a straight line. A car driving at high speed off a cliff follows a trajectory--

BTW: explosives played no role in the collapse of the WTC buildings, and any attempt to prove the use of explosives with a photograph is unadulterated idiocy. Anyone who believes that is totally full of shit.

"trees don't compress straight down" . . . All three towers on 9/11 did come straight down at the speed of controlled demolitions. The twin towers displayed the effect of explosive forces radiating outward in all directions from the center of the explosions. WTC7 fell straight down in 8 seconds even though the damage which is alleged to have brought it down was on one side.

Buildings collapsing from fire damage fall straight down as gravity dictates.

VERY TRUE...BUT...you still fail to grasp weight in motion... you seem to reject Newton's laws... almost a half mega ton of energy was released on each tower on 911... Newton's third law is even more evidence that explosives were used to bring down the twin towers.
"Formally stated, Newton's third law is: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The statement means that in every interaction, there is a pair of forces acting on the two interacting objects. The size of the forces on the first object equals the size of the force on the second object."

In the case of the twin towers, the equal and opposite reaction was totally missing. When the top section started to fall, there was no jolt or hesitation when the upper section hit the solid structure below. The entire tower came down as if there was no resistance at all. This can only be accomplished by explosives.
