Sixty one years ago Herman James, a North Carolina mountain man, joined the Marine Corps. On the first day of basic training they issued him a comb. That afternoon a barber shaved off all of his hair. The next morning they issued him a tooth brush. That same day, a dentist yanked out seven of his teeth.
