WHEN I WAS A CHILD, I CAME TO BEING IN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT AMERICA. NOBODY LOCKED THIER DOORS. CRIME WAS OF A DIFFERENT NATURE THEN THAT OF TODAY. THERE WERE NO MASS MURDERS, AT LEAST IT WAS NOT SENSATIONALIZED LIKE TODAY SO AS TO PRODUCE COPYCATS. IT' ONE-UPMANSHIP AT EVERY TURN. SPEAKING OF CRIME AND THE LIKE, tHE POLITICIANS THAT WERE PARTY TO THE BRINKSMANSHIP OF THE US AS IT IS CALLED TODAY, SHOULD BE PROSECUTED AND SENT TO JAIL INCLUDING THE PRESIDENT. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED IN THE 1800'S THESE IGNORENT POLITICIANS WOULD HAVE BEEN LYNCHED IF NOT JAILED JUST FOR NOT DOING THIER JOB AND FOR PLAYING GAMES.

When and where I grew up was similar. Rural NM in the sixties was still the old west. When I moved back east as a teenager, my folks had to get used to locking doors, etc. Most boys carried pocket knives in school, and never used them as weapons. Differences were settled knuckle and skull, not knife and gun. Hell, the teachers would sometimes referee. Kids were expected to learn, and teachers were expected to teach. The school I attended would have been considered a relic of the stone age today, yet we received a far better education than kids today. Most high school students today, if they are lucky, receive the equivalent of what used to be a 6th or 7th grade education by the time they graduate high school. Give a kid today a pencil and paper. Ask them to diagram a sentence, or extract a simple square root. The blank look you'll get would be hilarious, were it not so appalling. Ask them the capitol of North Dakota. Ask them who their Congressman and Senators are. We knew this stuff in, as I said, 6th and 7th grade. Now college students are clueless.

Welcome to 1PP, Mike. We have all kinds here. Some of us get along great, some not so great, some not at all, but at the end of the day everyone who wanted to have a say had that opportunity. Hope you will enjoy and I hope you will stick around for a long time.

I grew up in the '50's in rural central Texas, and our doors were never locked. Youngsters could walk about town without an adult to protect him. Parents didn't have to worry about gangs, drugs, killings, mass murders, serial killers, etc.

What has changed is the moral fiber of our nation. It has been systematically taken down and destroyed as much as possible because the dark side of human nature KNOWS that only unprincipled nations can be taken down.......ergo, get rid of principled living as much as possible, and the nation will be ripe for takeover by opportunists. That's our biggest problem.

Just for your knowledge ahead of time: When you want to reply to a specific comment, do NOT click on "reply" because then your comment will wander about and NO ONE knows to whom you are speaking. Instead, click on "quote reply".

And eventually someone will request you not type in all caps. That is usually seen as "yelling". LOL. However, if your eyesight requires caps, then caps it is and everyone should live with it! I do hope you enjoy your time here. Lots of people share your feelings about our government!!!

This is an edit here. Welcome aboard and enjoy the forums, hope you are here for along time. I grew up in the 40's and 50's and we never locked our doors. In fact we often just left the keys in the car instead of taking them out. I went to a four room school in Milwaukee for what would be junior high in IL and we had the best teacher and more fun than you can imagine and we got a great education. When I was younger I went to a grade school clear across town by myself in first grade. No one ever thought a thing of it we were safe back then. Today we have removed God we have removed the conscience of the people and we have destroyed the moral fiber that was America. The progressives are doing there best and working overtime to bring us down to our knees. The next question that remains is will we let them or will we fight them. If we fight them it won't be pretty but we may survive as I believe that the majority of the progressives that when push comes to shove are cowards. Most don't even own guns and those that do probably don't know how to use them. Most of the progressives of today are like Obama in that they despise the military but if they get in trouble they are the first called.

Hello Mike, I would have liked to have grown up in such a peaceful environment. I have never known that kind of faith in your fellow man.

Brandi,
I too, grew up in a farming community and never locked doors, left keys in the car and so on. From this side of the fence, the new reality is fairly strange. To say it has all changed though, isn't all true. I lock my front door in my apartment but never the back (in case I lock my self out). I have had two cans of gas in the back of my pickup truck since last deer season and dumped in one of them this season because I was concerned that it may go sour. I filled it and put it back into the bed. This community is also a farm community with ugly scenery, harsh cold winters and 110 deg. summers. Everyone here came to work and we work so hard when the weather is good that everyone is just too tired to be a criminal. The community where I grew up is not so fortunate, and has a thriving criminal element from what I hear. The new reality stinks, but there is an almighty God that still owns all of this and will clean up and take control from the walking dead when he decides it's time. You can count on it.

I, too, was born in the 40's and had a much better life than we have today. Todays life everyone wants to show how rough and tough they are. Even tho I was born in the 40's, I admire the 1800's and sometimes wish that I had been born then. Life today stinks most of the time and not much to look forward to. I do not like living "warp speed ahead". I want to go back but find it cannot be done.

Mike, don't worry about stepping on anyone else's toes, protect your own, though, because it can be vicious around here, sometimes.
