I am a very partisan conservative. I know, real shocker. I just want to see if most on this site agree that the Commander and Chief has failed his main duty as Commander and Chief. After the shutdown began 5 service members lost their lives and the benefits the families were to receive were denied by DOD. The finger pointing has begun. DOD says congress didn't include authorization in a supplemental spending bill and congress says they did.
I help Veterans apply for benefits (Voluntarily) so I am really upset about this. If the rumors are true that Justice and white house lawyers stepped in to make this happen we have the most despicable administration in American history.
This president passes out executive orders like candy on Halloween. He is the Commander and Chief. He could have stepped in and solved this problem for these families immediately. They are suffering enough!

Where are our military leaders in all this - I say, we have no leaders in this country, at all - All of the 4 star generals are saying and doing nothing, except maybe condemning Christians. Generals control what happens to their soldiers - they should be taking care of them and their families and not getting caught up in the shame that is Washington DC. No Balls - No Stars.

People need to think and that hurts. This the Obama way of thinking and it has filtered into the very fabric of this nation, that's not our job so families go without.

In the slave days Obama would be the overseer, if you step out of line then he is very willing to apply the whip!! That is just what he is doing to the American people until they give in.

Perhaps a million veteran march on DOJ and the White House is in order. It would not be the first time veterans have gone to DC to demand fair and just treatment from a recalcitrant administration. We as citizens should demand prompt payment of benefits to our military veterans.

I do agree but if they really dislike the military so much why did they get us into WWI, WWII, Korea and Nam?

About those career men. Did you know how Eisenhower voted all his years of voting. He voted Democrat all along according to the Democrats who asked him to run for them before the Republicans did. I take all that from the Democrats back then since I was one of them then.

Ike was president of Columbia up until mid 1950 when Ike resigned which Colombia refused to accept. Ike shortly there after retired from the Army. Truman tried to get him to run as a democrat and that point Ike showed his distain for the democratic party and declare himself a republican. Ike was not political and it took some time to get him to run.

Let me provide an answer. As Commander in Chief, the President has the authority to direct the Secretary of Defense to issue payment to veterans for the things that are currently at issue. He has even more standing to issue this directive, as the House of Representatives, who are the purse of the country, have issued a CR to fund these matters.
