Conservatives Brace For 'War' Over Obama Gun Order

By Cathy Burke | Friday, 01 Jan 2016

Executive Order = Dictatorship

Conservatives, lawmakers and gun advocates are beginning to mount a defiant opposition to President Barack Obama's plans to order expanded background checks for gun buyers.

The go-it-alone move signals "war," Chicago radio host and former congressman Joe Walsh warns, calling it "time for civil disobedience."

As the president announced he'd meet with Attorney General Loretta Lynch on the gun order Monday, GOP presidential contender Mike Huckabee is already slamming the action.

"Obama’s executive orders on gun control… are also unconstitutional and completely insane," he writes in a Facebook post.

"What’s worse though is this Republican-controlled Congress waves the white flag of surrender every time."

The National Rifle Association didn't immediately respond, but the influential advocacy group has previously said Obama’s "gun control agenda was rejected by Congress. Now, he is doing what he always does when he doesn’t get his way, defying the will of the people and using executive action," The Daily Caller reports.

Another GOP presidential primary candidate, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, has preemptively moved to halt the president's ability to enact new regulations.

Rand has introduced legislation that would decree any executive action on gun control that either infringes upon congressional authority or potentially violates the Second Amendment as "advisory only" until legislation that supported the action is passed by Congress, The Hill notes.

“In the United States, we do not have a king, but we do have a Constitution. We also have the Second Amendment, and I will fight tooth and nail to protect it,” Paul said in a statement earlier this week, the Hill reports.

The legislation is currently being fast-tracked through the Senate. It's expected to be placed on the Senate calendar for lawmakers when they return to Washington from their recess.

The legislation would also allow for any state official, member of Congress or person affected by an executive action on gun control to launch a civil lawsuit.

Other conservatives are also outraged at the planned gun order, with Bloomberg writer Paul Barrett warning the executive action will only pour gasoline "on a fire already burning hot."

"The timing of the expected Obama move on background checks guarantees it will receive a hostile reaction from gun-rights advocates, thousands of whom will gather next month in Las Vegas for the firearm industry's annual Shooting, Hunting & Outdoor Trade Show," he writes.

"While the enormous gathering in Las Vegas isn't technically an NRA event, the group's strong anti-Obama stance will almost certainly be evident there, and a fresh proposal to stiffen regulation may have the effect of pouring gasoline on a fire already burning hot."

History professor Steve Byas, from Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College in Moore, Okla., derides the attempt to close what's been called the "gun-show loophole."

"Obama and other gun-control advocates contend that they are not in favor of outright confiscation of privately owned guns, but rather just 'common sense' laws to stop mass shootings and other acts of 'gun violence'," he writes for New American.

"But as a glaring example that gun laws don't stop criminals, despite California having some of the strictest gun control laws in the country — already mandating universal background checks for all gun purchases — Syed Farook and wife Tashfeen Malik were able to legally obtain firearms and kill 14 people in San Bernardino on December 2."

"In short, closing the so-called gun show loophole would not have prevented the shooting spree in San Bernardino, yet that is what Obama called for in reaction to the massacre."

The President is authorized to write Ex Orders, but only as they pertain to his function as President. Most of the EO that are on file now are unconstitutional and need to be thrown out.

It is not just obama that is guilty of writing them, but he is very bad about it. In reality, there are very few things he is allowed to write them on, but since Congress is doing pretty much as they please, they can't very well stop him without drawing fire on themselves.

There seems to be a growing need on the part of some for civil disobedience over gun rules.

I have had no problem with these people with guns having them. I have said repeatedly on this site I have no person objection over people having guns.

I have no guns & no plans to get any guns.

But when I hear of how some would use Civil Disobedience on this issue it causes an alarm in me.

It is one of am I for or against either side. Now that means
I will be on the sideline not wanting to support either side actively. Then maybe having both sides against me.

So much for my personal freedom.

The whole thing comes down to just things being worse for every one.

One cannot compare Executive Orders of Presidents by numbers alone. One has to also look at the content of the orders and keep in mind that Obama has issued many what he calls Executive Memos which have the same power but are just called by a different name.

Executive Orders mean that the President will take action in support of the wishes of the majority of Americans because congress fails to act and has only the concerns of the minority in mind. Just wait, more EOs to come.

Obama cares nothing about the wishes of the American people but only his own.

That's ok if you think such, but you know nothing about the wishes of most Americans, as you dwell in the black hole of the Obama hating American minority.

The Presidents in the past, now & in the future will always put Special Interest Groups ahead of the General Public.
