Can we use Religion to seek Peace?

I am sorry but in the here & now I don't feel that what God may or may have said a couple of thousand years go is not the basis on how the world should be divided today.

People need to set down & make a valid attempt to set up a new set of rules to live by & with.

It would be great if it all could be done in a Peaceful manner.

It would be great, Floyd, but as religious differences are among the largest sources of discord in the world, it is doubtful. Possibly, more people have died for or in the name of religion than any other cause. :|

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humanism

Humanism

This article is about human-centred philosophy. For other uses, see Humanism (disambiguation).
Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasizes the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively, and generally prefers critical thinking and evidence (rationalism, empiricism) over unthinking acceptance of dogma or superstition. The meaning of the term humanism has fluctuated according to the successive intellectual movements which have identified with it.[1] Generally, however, humanism refers to a perspective that affirms some notion of human freedom and progress. In modern times, humanist movements are typically aligned with secularism, and as of 2015 "Humanism" typically refers to a non-theistic life stance centred on human agency and looking to science rather than revelation from a supernatural source to understand the world.

Season's Greetings!

That being said: We will never live in peace until We can do that.

In this country we have freedom of religion & we seem to get along fairly well.

Any one that would wish to have a war based solely on religion is doomed to fail.

As it is now economics seems to be the main reason.

Those that would seek war for economic gain use other reasons for war & religion is one.

I can not gain personal safety & well being by decreasing others safety & well being.

After al it is not the masses that we need to fear it is only those that lead them.

We need to fear our leaders more than we need to fear the followers of other countries.

There is by a large margin more good in the World than bad. That is where trust has to come in.

It is people like you & I to bring out the good in others.

Let me resay that: We need to do a better job than we are doing.

I don't know that you've noticed Floyd but there are more than a few on this board that would dearly love to see a civil war and it is largely divided along religious lines--conservative Christians vs everyone else. Multiply that out and you have several million neanderthals with bibles they think they have to defend. So I think you are being naive if you think we get along. We don't. We follow the laws--for now--and that's about the best that can be said...

As Richard Pryor said, famously, after interviewing maximum security prison inmates about their backgrounds, prior to making a prison based comedy special, "I thought about what he said and all I can say is thank God we have prisons!"

There used to be a war in Ireland between the Protestants and Catholics. God ended that, along with the Cold War. I personally wouldn't mind all the Christians killing each other. As Christians, they're ultimately doomed anyway.

If they had had less harshness & a more kindness in their life's they might not have been in prison.

Having prisons means that we as humans are not doing very well at our jobs.

I say that all people wish to have a feeling of belonging.

Religion gives people this feeling.

This feeling is used by some for personal ends.

In the USA we tend to show respect for the religion of others.

It seems at times that enough respect is not shown.

It would be nice if it was all done side by side.

Jesus came for the wicked, the God of Israel is coming for the righteous. They come in all races, creeds, and colors and God will unite them and we will defeat the wicked. The righteous meek who love and fear God will enter Heaven, and literally live forever.
