Yes Religion is used to divide Us.

Yes Religion is at the heart of much of the problems we have today.

Religion is used to control people.
Much of what has taken place in the past has been taken in the Name of God.

It is the idea that my religion is the only right religion!

Until every one learns to respect others religions the problems will continue.

Religion is a private personal issue.

Because the idea of religion being used to control people one needs to look at those that lead people as the source of the problems.

For the most part it is those that seek to lead need an issue. Religion is often used as the issue.

This country was formed with the idea of religious freedom.

In no small way that lead to the basic strength of the USA.

It is only with the basic freedoms we have & hold that will keep us as a Nation strong. & free.

Others may not wish to make room for Us but is because we have made room for others that has made Us strong.

Now is not the time to change course.

I would suggest he get up and personal while telling that to the believers of Islam.

I noticed, Floyd, that no one seems to be quoting anything in support of religion bringing people together. The comments so far kind prove your point, no?

Floyd,

You are far too astute to be a democrat.

I am always impressed by your demeanor and your disciplined insight.

Please sir, join the conservative effort and lend your quick-wittednes to those who would truly appreciate you.

As for the matter of your topic on religion, I think you should first understand the difference between religion and spirituality.

Religion may be simplified in definition by the word " habit".

That's really all that Religion means is the habitual practice of any particular pass-time.

Such as myself, I am a religious fisherman. It has become a lifelong habit.

Spirituality ,on the other hand, is a far more complicated matter.

You are a wise man Floyd Brown. I totally concur with your sentiment.

If only religion would keep to itself and stop trying to force its beliefs on others.

Yes there are SOME MUSLIMS that fit the bill that I see as to seek control over others for their own misguided ends.

Much effort is being brought on them to end their ways.

We gain nothing & lose much if we label all Muslims as being bad.

As I see it all or at least most Religions seek to gain followers.

To keep their freedom it is best not to use the political arena to further spread their agenda. Religions should avoid political issues.

As a Nation we see that there is a separation between Religion & State. Each to their own.

In my personal life I am very conservative. But I am very Liberal in how I look at the World around me.

The well being of others is important to my well being.

Having the things need for a healthy life are a large part of being a secure person.

As more people have a healthy life they become more secure & my life is more secure.

Being secure means being less likely to disrupt the life of others.

Others having enough to be some what secure means that I don't have to seek added security for my self.

Wise words Floyd. I only wish more people understood exactly what you are saying. Perhaps then there would be a chance of ending the cycle of violence.

I just can not see how people seem to need more things than they ever could really enjoy having.

More time & effort is spend earning the money to buy, house & maintain than they ever have time to real use & enjoy.

I think it is mostly about having things to show off how well you are doing.

Most people just do not have the time to enjoy the simple pleasures. Working to get their toys takes to much of their time.

Many do not have the means to buy a lot of junk to show off so they use different ways to get things.

Go into debt (Borrow some thing some one else don't seem to be using (steal it)) or what ever way they can.

I think Wordsworth put it well in his poem:

The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;—
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon;
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers;
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
It moves us not. Great God! I’d rather be
A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow his wreathèd horn.

A friend of mine said that the group that he hung around with had a saying and that is "He that dies with the most toys wins". I looked at him and said so you died with the most toys and you win what. You are dead and the toys do you no good. So what are you after and is there an explanation to the game. He had none to give me so I just said to him he who dies with Jesus wins the game, the toys will rust and be outdated and your life will amount to nothing. People are the only thing that matter and your relationship with Jesus Christ as your savior.

Most people believe there is a God. The picture of just who this God is differs among Us. If we are to live in Peace with each other we can not use that difference to divide Us.

I can not prove or deny His presence. It is the Faith that each of Us has in the God we chose that matters to each of Us.

We need to have the Faith in others & the trust that we are all free to choose our personal Faith.

As We are free to choose so must we grant to others that same freedom.

We must help each other to free those that are captive to those that would use Religion to enslave others.

Our Faith in God is misplaced if we can not show our Faith in others that believe in God differently than we do.
