It's really difficult for people to walk the centre line without drifting left or right and to the fringe. The political parties have brought this on themselves.

I am not really sure that it matters what political parties do, history shows us that the people's representatives in that forum are willows.
They bend, blow in the wind, sometimes are uprooted, and rarely break.
I don't think that anyone who is moderate is not on one side or other on most issues, if they are dead center it is typically because they don't care about the issue, I think. Don't you?

I think spending too much time here on OPP makes us appear to be more "fringy" than we really are.
It doesn't do a lot for our ability to express ourselves fully or well.

Yeah, you make valid points. There is a lot of passion that motivates. Often though, it's hard to say who is really thought thinking or agitating.

As far as dead center, it depends on passion I think; although you may be right as far as caring for the issues. I feel at times it's the politician who feels threatened with the issue, possibly viewing it as an albatross (metaphorically speaking) around their neck. If they move one side or the other too far, election time would be a bearer of bad news.
