The University of Chicago did an interesting little study. U of C will never be accused of a conservative or pro-gun bent in this universe.
What they found was an eye-opener.
One hundred inmates of the Cook County Jail, accused of or convicted of firearms crimes, were asked how they obtained the firearms they used. Two obtained theirs through legal means. The other 98 bought them from other criminals, or stole them.
The fact is that criminals almost never buy guns legally. Do you actually think a "universal background check will do any good? I mean, REALLY?

The libs and or progressives are only using these things as cover to eventually remove all guns from law abiding citizens as they already realize that they will never rid the criminal element of guns and that they will never remove the criminal element from society. All of their proposals are nothing but scams against society. You can't overthrow a government and enslave the populace if the populace is armed.

One more time, for those of you who do not understand yet. The government does not care anything about criminals having guns. In their minds, higher taxes for more policemen will take care of the criminals. Like everything else they advocate that has failed, including communism, they feel it is caused by underfunding. Higher taxes will make it work.

The real fear of government is that the lawful, hard working people with guns will one day tire of the tyrannical rule of a socialist government, and rise up to restore the USA to a representative Republic. They don't fear the criminals, they fear the God loving, freedom seeking, truth telling, hard working, average American, who owns a gun and hates crooked, lying politicians.

In the US each year about a quarter million firearms are stolen each year in buglary alone, 25000 are stolen from gun dealers. This is the way most criminals arm themselves. The likelihood that a gun owner in this country will have his or her gun stolen in a burglary or taken from their car is many many times greater than the likelihood they will use it to defend themselves.

By the way, the likliehood that you will have your firearm stolen if you take the most rudimentary precautions is fairly low.

The problem with gun laws is that we have to treat every person equally. The dumbasses get to buy guns, just like those who have some degree of intelligence.

Many handguns are stolen from personal vehicles, which makes me wonder why the person even had the gun. I can think of few, if any deadly situations in which a person would have time to go digging in the glove box, console or under the seat for the gun, but not have time to get away from the threat by running or driving away.

In most cases, like a carjacking, robbery, kidnapping, etc., ... if you can't bring the weapon into action in less than two to five seconds, you lose as bad as you would without the gun. If you aren't licensed, or otherwise permitted, to carry a handgun on your person, and practiced enough to deploy it quickly, leave the damned thing at home. It is giving you a false sense of security.

If you can't hide or safely secure your guns in your home, sell them and use the money to prepay your funeral. Some people were just born to be the prey of criminals. When the SHTF, they should call 911. The police will arrive in 15 to 20 minutes, to write the reports, take pictures and get the body to the morgue.
