Image over Rhetoric

I’ve mentioned before that we should start listening with our truthful ears instead of relying upon our lying eyes. The left has proven beyond a shadow of doubt that they have mastered the art of planting the wrong facts in your mind by the images you see. They learned this from the 1980 Presidential campaign.

For those of you that have been around and politically alert since the 1960s may well remember the lesson learned by the left at the expense of Lesley Stahl with what she thought was her great hit peace on Ronald Reagan during his 1980 Presidential Campaign. She and her producers put together a montage of Reagan doing everything they thought would tarnish his image as a serious contender. Lesley Stahl, being the liberal that she was, thought it was the toughest piece she had ever done on Reagan. Expecting to be castigated by the White House, instead she received a call thanking her for the great piece she had done on Reagan. She was in shock. They told her that when people are watching four and one-half minutes of great photos of Ronald Reagan doing all those humble, honest and human things, or something to that effect, nobody is listening to what you are saying, and we now know that to be true. Under certain conditions, images are registered and remembered, words, although more important, are not.

Another listen well learned by the left is the very effective Democrat TV Ad of a little girl picking a daisy about to be nuked by the Republican Presidential Candidate Barry Goldwater. Although a big lie, the images it buried in the minds of the voters was devastating to the Goldwater campaign.

So folks, listen up! Keep watching the antics of Donald Trump because they are entertaining and his topics are what is really on the minds of the American people, but where’s the beef? It will eventually have to come and that’s when you must perk up your ears and really start to listen instead of just watching. We will hear only headlines and very few how-to’s until early next year. The real campaign will commence in earnest when we get closer to the state primaries. Huck
