This is an interesting piece I received in an email. I asked the writer for permission to share it, and he said as long as I gave him recognition for his work - so here it is and here's the question: Should the South rise again?

July 4, 2015, Saint Augustine, Florida

Some personal observations as we embark on our 240th year since declaring our independence from the British: Our once-great nation is severely fragmented, deeply divided along racial, ethnic, regional, behavioral, and economic fissures. It is crippled by a pitiful absence of any political leadership essential to regenerating even the mildest of cohesion among the various factions.

Our once mighty military has degenerated into a plethora of ill-conceived social experiments overseen by a crazy-quilt collection of queers, freaks, multi-culturalists, hair-brained academicians, and neo-Bolsheviks and led by a fairy-like delusional dreamer who longs to be a dictator.

Our former allies and friends overseas now see us as a laughingstock advocating a foreign policy of weakness, appeasement, withdrawal, and surrender.

There are those among us who recognize how far we have fallen, and there are even among them those who demand to bring back our country to its greatness. But this is an unrealistic dream. We have come too far along the road to serfdom to ever restore the country to what it once was.

We have arrived at a crossroads and each of us must decide if we prefer to live in freedom or if we wish to have an all-powerful government protect us and direct us in all that we do. Having made that choice, those who prefer freedom must band together politically to bring about a divorce, as it were, preferably peaceful, from those adhering to the nanny state.

By and large, we residents of the South, basically consisting of the former Confederate States, have realized for some time that we have little, if anything, in common with those residents of other regions of what currently constitutes the United States. Essentially, a reconstituting of the former Confederacy is in order, and the sooner the better.

Having given this much consideration, I would support this effort! Washington is no longer a government for all the people, but a select few. Time to consider if a final split is in the best interest of the many vs the desires and demands of the few.

It is a wonderful thought. However, I don't see it as do able. Revolution is hard work and most Americans are just to lazy and suffer from apathy. It is far easier for us to complain then to actually give up our creature comforts for any real change.

So you want to go back to the days of slavery?
Not really sure what you are advocating.

Because slavery was evil,and anyone that would support it is evil also.

I liked the fairy part, the rest is old news. Put your money where your mouth (or pen) is. It's called VOTING CONSERVATIVE! Most important,vote, get your friends and neighbors to vote. Grassroots means a lot of work by a lot of people. @TedCruz is my choice and is capable of returning us to greatness but even his supporters don't go the extra mile, yet. I hope that changes soon.
Not to pick a fight,but, which part of the South do you want to rise again? Slavery aside, is it the gentile privileges of the few or the lack of innovation you desire?
Historically the South took ten men to do the work of one machine, but then labor was the cheapest commodity.
I grew up so Yankee the Bostonians and New Yorkers called us Yankee. Vermont used to be a conservative bastion in a sea of lilly-livers. That Vermont no longer exists,replaced by pinko liberal leftists with more money than sense.
Our Yankee ingenuity has been lost, I won't return to where they champion leftist Bernie Sanders in what is now a playground for the wealthy.
I live in Houston TX which actually has the wherewithal to successfully secede with an independent economy, natural resources and innovation. Most of the South doesn't enjoy these variables and once again would need to rely on outside resources. Mudbugs and possum jowls, flat land and muddy water isn't all that enticing. An all-expense paid trip to Birmingham doesn't show up much on Wheel of Fortune.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I wrote you I liked much of what was written except the Slavery Statement...
Having said that:
July 10, 2015 -- Do we really want to desoule the government or would it better to reduce its size and dictatorial domestic policies now in place via Bush W. & Obama...
Would 13 Southern States be strong enough to defend itself against foreign enemies???
The reason for a strong States rights laws is to allow the people to govern themselves...
What has happened to the Article 5 States Convention???
There is much "We the People" could do working within the boundaries in place, we could make it work... Don D.
