San Francisco (CNN)Kate Steinle was walking on a busy pier in San Francisco with her father when there was a single popping sound in the air.
She fell to the ground, struck by a bullet, the victim of what police say appears to be a random killing.
The man accused of firing the deadly shot -- 45-year-old Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez -- is an undocumented immigrant, a repeat felon who has been deported five times to Mexico, according to immigration officials.
It would have been six, a federal law enforcement source told CNN, except authorities in San Francisco wanted him on a drug-related warrant.
So U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which had Lopez-Sanchez in its custody in March after his release from federal prison, turned him over to San Francisco deputies. ICE said they requested an immigration detainer, asking that the agency be notified before Lopez-Sanchez was released.
But San Francisco is a city that doesn't honor such requests and the sheriff's department released him. Freya Horne, chief legal counsel to the San Francisco County Sheriff, told CNN that he was let go because there was no legal cause to detain the suspect.

San Francisco needs to change it's policies yesterday. Additionally, the representative who so stated the SFPD policy should be demoted, possibly fired, and put through sensentivity training for her lack of feeling, uncaring feeling when stating the policy and PD stance. What in 'God's" name is wrong with that city's policy and the uncaring stance in which the policy is explained and executed to all? If this was a black person executed, I am sure it would be handled with much more caring and concern. Shame on you San Francisco, I now consider you to be the city of UN-brotherly love now! You need to change your policy now. My condolences to the family for the loss of their lovely daughter who was an innocent victim. You are in my prayers.

San Francisco is a "Sanctuary City." Apparently San Francisco County is also. The city encompasses several counties. Rather than the city being a part of the county, the county is a part of the city.

Obama's Executive Action included the provision to immediately deport illegals such as this, but the Republicans blocked that action by filing a suit to stifle that action, so they are to blame for this death. The White House was complicit in the release of tens of thousands of wetback felons last year alone, "Pending their deportation." Wanna guess how many of them showed up voluntarily to be deported?
