Constantly, I hear critics of Canada's health care system. I have personally experienced their system. I broke my leg skiing. The experience was 100% better than my experiences with the U.S. system. The wait was one third the time I wait in U.S hospital's ER. The doctor's and staff were more concerned with my problem than my insurance. My prescriptions were about one fourth of the cost of the same drugs in the U.S.

For new treatments for my MS I had to go to Germany. The health care system in this country is a joke. We pay more for inferior care. To me health care should be a right for all human beings.

My care should be decided by my doctor and myself not some insurance clerk with no medical training.

I agree on many levels.
The one issue I have is that I don't trust medical personnel to make recommendations after recent experiences. The for profit intrusion into health care has corrupted the relationship in favor of making money for their system.

I agree. I believe the only hope for the U.S. is a carefully monitored one payer system. Why does one of my M.S. medications cost $800. in the U.S. and $70. for the same drug in Germany? Simple the German government will not allow the pharm. companies to set the price for its' citizens.

I wish I had been on the ball earlier. I was discussing the difficulties of the Canadian system I should have asked if the person had an idea of how much effective MS medication cost in Canada.
I think, she wolf, that some are just never able to focus on the plus side of systems that work for our benefit.
I can remember how happy my mother and her siblings were when Medicare came into being, it eased their burden for medical care for my grandmother so much. Being humans we want better coverage all of the time. Of course, at that point in time there was no $800./month med for MS.
